I hate that too!! I do everything online so it's a real PITA when they don't clear on a timely basis.
I wrote a check for a traffic ticket DH got 3 months ago and it still hasn't cleared! It's killing me!

I am the worst at depositing checks.
I always forget..or the teller line is too long..and I am IO to depositing into atms.
it's bad news. I started giving them to dh to deposit. he is much better about it than I am.

I know what you mean, but what's the difference though? You write a check, and that money is technically no longer in the account. It shouldn't mess your system up because you've deducted the money. 
b/c If you don't go by a check book sheet- like me - I just go by what my online balance shows- it can mess you up-
this would totally mess up my world! I must know the exact amount I have before writing a check so I go by my checkbook records. The banks balance is useless to me.
The bank has no idea if you've written checks and for what amount 
as for holding checks, I generally do not
but if I gave someone one and they held it, it wouldn't bother me because to me the money is gone. I would only become concerned if it was coming close to the "void after" date
and that maybe they lost the check.

My bank allows me to scan checks in so I cash my checks super fast now and they clear to my account that day which is funny because we used to have to mail in our deposits and it took forever which ****** off alot of people but was beyond our control since our bank is USAA and in Texas.
I'm not bothered by late check cashers since I go by my check regstry not my online balance.
I'm sorry, can you leave the amounts of the checks in your account and just stop putting in any additional money or well murphy's law is that they are probably cashing the check right now as your posted this!

Or lately I have given cash because it is easier.
