kippa/yarmulke question
i've started to state that i'm looking to start an online business.
i'm presently building my "inventory".
i'm hoping to be up and running for the winter holiday season. being christian, i've got the christmas aspect of it taken care of. now i'm working on my hannukah component.
one of the things i was thinking of was to include yarmulkes. here is where the question comes.
is there anything (color, pattern, motif) i should stay away from? i don't want to do anything that would be rude/wrong/offensive.

I have seen yarmulkes with all sorts of patterns, motifs and colors. I would simply stay away from symbols or themes that may/could be associated with another faith.

Just a note-- in my experience, people don't wear yarmulkes for Chanukah-- just the high holy days (in Sept/Oct) and some wear for Passover.
Of course people get custom ones for weddings and bar mitzvahs-- and there are always those who are religious who wear them all on the time, or just on the sabbath.

i have one question: would this mean that people wouldn't normally purchase yarmulkes as a hannukah gift?

I don't really think yarmulkes are a hot hanukkah gift. Maybe look into some decorative or novely items. Some pretty menorahs or hand-dipped candles.

If a person is going to temple on Chanukah, they may wear one. Chanukah is a festival and not a super religious holiday.

I know that my FH will never EVER have to buy a yarmulke in his life since he has about 3 dozen of them from bar/bat mitzvahs and weddings. I'd go with something else!

ok.
so, correct me if i'm wrong.
but what i've gathered is: not everyone goes to temple on hannukah, so a yarmulke might not be something that will "jump off the shelves"
i make candles also (i can't believe i didn't think of candles  )
novely and other "gifty" items would be good for both christmas and hannukah.
i can still include one or two simple/basic yarmulkes, just in case.
did i get it right?

Yarmulke's never jump off the shelves. My dad and my DH get them at weddings or Bar/Bat Mitzvah. There is no reason to buy a custom yarmulke unless you are orthodox or hassidic.

Or in Hebrew School. I went to Hebrew School in a Conservative shul and all the boys wore yarmulkes.

I would research the candle making-- I believe Chanukah candles need to be made/prepared a certain way-- which is what makes them different than let's say, birthday candles.

The only time I ever bought anyone a yarmulke was recently when I was in a store that custom painted on mini-yarmulkes as a baby gift. I bought someone one with a yankees logo and the baby's name. It was a cute add on for our gift and it was an impulse purchase. I bet that store sells a lot of that type of yarmulke but other than that I do not think that yarmulkes will sell, especially on a site with mixed faith items. Ordinarily, if I wanted yarmulkes, I would look for a Judaica store. You may have mentioned it, but have you looked into selling dreidels?

I know! I am going to need a separate drawer just for yarmulkes pretty soon! And it's funny on passover or other holidays everyone looks and says "Oh man, I got Josh's Bat Mitzvah again.,..what ever happenned to him?" haha

Candles
Dreidels
Menorahs-electric and candle
festive place mats for menorahs
Chocolate coins (used as prizes for game of dreidel)-I just eat them..

if you want to have a novelty type kippah, get ones w/ dreidls or menorahs.
they may not sell in high numbers, but they're cute.
another cute hanukkah idea is to have socks w/ hanukkah related symbols on them or slipper socks.
