We've been invited
To my neighbors kid's first b-day party. It's going to be in their backyard and it will surely be a fest!
...

I don't care to attend. I love them and their little girl, but the thought of the party has me sick to my stomach. I have a gazillion things to do tomorrow and then I have to work.
I'm thinking I could drop off a gift tonight and explain that we may stop in for a bit but may miss the whole thing.
Last week we attended the mother's retirement party. That also was a big fest and we went. Good thing there was an open bar.
I think I'm partied out with them.

I would go for a half an hour (for appearances sake) and then make my apologies. If you have too much to do, you have too much to do. You need some balance in your life with all you're going through
