Living outside your means.....
I am currently dealing with 2 clients who are doing just that.
Big extravagant parties for their kids, yet they are bouncing checks left and right, not paying their bills, and at the same time, bragging about their homes and all the money they "have".
My question, why bother? Is it that important to put up this front that you have all this money, yet you call me asking me to reverse your cc payment because you're gonna get tossed out of your house?
Where are the priorities?

I never understood that either.
But, i notice people tend to be more like that when it comes to their kids. My parents were like that- had nothing, yet would go further into debt to get us stuff.
I couldnt ever imagine being like that, but i guess i'd understand more when i had kids of my own. But, they're paying for their own weddings!

it is very important to some to "keep up with the Joneses" - I think for a lot of people esp. with their kids - they don't want their kids to feel left out, or like they don't have what their friends do.

Re: Living outside your means.....
Alot of people are so busy trying to keep up with the Joneses that they forget what they can afford from what they cannot afford. I know and see too much people are drowning in debts because they feel the need to keep up with their friends and family members which is quite SAD.

My sweet 16 was a VFW hall and it was the proudest day of my life. My cousins go to bats and bar mitzvahs with $100 and $200 gifts in hand. The whole thing has gotten out of control.
I especially loved when I told my mom's friend where I got married and she told me thats where her daughter wants her sweet 16
ARE THESE PEOPLE INSANE??????? Keeping up with the Joneses has truly gotten out of control. And the WORST part----these kids think this kind of stuff is owned to them.

Re: Living outside your means.....
This is a huge issue with society now I feel.
People think they are entitled to it all, rather than saving and working hard to get something.

And the lids are the worst, thinking they DESERVE these things just because they exist!!! Only a handful of times, not even, have I heard a child say to their parent that they would help pay for something. THAT is refreshing to hear.

Re: Living outside your means.....
While I agree w/everything stated above, I'm playing devil's advocate by saying that some people do have money but do not know how to manage their finances.
Just b/c they're bouncing checks and moving payments around, doesn't mean that they're living outside their means.
ETS: Oh, and then there are people who try to get one "over" by wanting the best but wanting to pay the least, and will find a way to hose businesses out of it. They create confusion!

I agree. And what is ironic is that here we have a war going on and while there have been lots of sacrificing on the behalf of our troops, there has been little to no sacrificing over here (aside from families affected). You would think now, post 9-11, there would be less greed.

that's not the kids fault, but the parents. It is up to the parents to teach the value of a dollar.
