i guess 07/07/07 is a lucky day!!!!Chat Icon

For the question about a judge ment no i was never mailed anything or even fair warned about anything.... i could have and not know about it due to the house being redone and stuff i did have mail being fowarded to my mom's house and still some of it goes there... i have had some minor problems getting mail fowarded back to my house.. so if this was something that had to go back due to an address change i might have not gotten it here yet(the foward change is up i think after 6 months and actually my mom still gets little things) .. anyway... the update is that i did call the bank and they did give me a number to call and i did and it turned out to be bills that where from kryssy and legally i am not resposable for them... her birthfather is (it's a court order) and second because my only means of support for either one of us is the ss and child support they will lift the hols and they said they will also do what they can to get this resolved todayChat Icon i told them to be nice(why i do not know but that is a diffeant story all in it's self) that i would pay half even though by court order i am not the one who has to pay her medical bills... i really do not want to have to go to court with him over this(but like i said that's a whole other story)

thanks for listen to me once again, i guess in a way this is why i have not been posting all so much because like i have said in the past it's just been very overwelming for me to make sure everyone is proud of me in keeping up what so MANY helped me get to this point in mylifeChat Icon AGAIN I CAN NEVER THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP,LOVE AND SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

update 2: *****
they just called me back and i have to fax at least 2 months of statements showing that the ss and childsupprt are the only means of support and they will unfreeze my acount... i will be back after i get that done!!!

update 3: *******

I just got done faxing everything over to this lady and i also included the copy of the child support order of his responsablities to pay her medical. then as my luck would have it when i went to call her back to make sure she got the fax she had stepped out of the officeChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon so now i await on her call back.

thanks again girls for all your help a few post made me think and i really need to show a back bone to her birthfather.... i just hope they can get this unfrozen and the funds back into my account todayChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon keep your fingers crossed

Re: having a melt down

They usually have to notify you of judgements against you before they remove money from your accounts.
My sister just went through this cuz she got off drugs and opened bank accounts - next thing Good Sam had taken $$$ out of her account because of judgements

You can call the bank and they will tell you the name and number of those who took the $$$ then call them and work out a payment plan.
I don't think the money taken out of the account has anything to do with the lawsuit. It's probably just money owed and the collection company found the account.

I am not sure how this works, but I know someone who owed money for student loans and they garnished their tax refund without notifying them....

Generally they do notify you - over and over- that's how they get the right to take the money. They show proof that they tried to get in touch with you and got no response.
In my sisters case they had years of letters that they had sent to every address they could find for her.

I would keep money out of your accounts for now. Call the hospital and set up a payment plan. I think as long as you show good faith they can't take anymore money.

Janet -

DO NOT PAY a bill that you are not legally responsible to pay. When I worked the legal dept of a collection agency, if you made a payment, it was your bill, your reponsiblity.

Things may have changed but it would be foolish to pay something that isn't yours.

like i said before her birthfather is a whole other story .... but in away you know she is my child too and i should at least pay my half? no? i know he is legally responsable for the whole thing but i do not want to open a can of worms with him being things have been "quite" with him for about 3 years now and i am getting my support finally after 9 years of fighting with him

I totally agree with this. What happens once you pay half and her birthfather doesn't pay? They are going to look to you for the rest - now and in the future.

Right now, I would be more concerned with how they got YOUR bank info if he is legally responsible.

don't pay it- my Dad tried to do the right thing and make my Moms car payment after she passed away- it was with in a week- and then he decided he didn't want the car- but since he had made the payment- the bank decided that it meant he wanted to keep the car- it was a nightmare getting out of it

However if you have no other source of income - only the SS and child support - than I definetly would NOT start paying toward the medical bill - you do not want to get stuck holding the bag there.

I hope everything works out! Chat Icon

Re: having a melt down***UPDATE****

it sounds like you'll get things sorted out which is great.

i had a judgment against me and like you was never contacted about it -- it was a collection agency for an old disputed AT&T bill -- anyway, they froze my account, got the money and caused me to bounce all sorts of payments. it was awful.
