hey people say where I live now it the ghetto...people including myself use the word all the time. I lovingly refer to my 8 year old economy car as "my ghetto rider". Even my friends call it that. I don't ever consider the racial in anyway, to me it is more about anyone that has something kinda lame or junky & I usually use it to describe a thing(like my car) not a person or group of people.
parts of this thread are friggin funny though.

I just came back from my spin class and my instructor is totally ghetto. We spin to ghetto music. And she is dancing around the room(she is preganant and can't spin) to a bootleg song "if you love me and you know it, clap your hands".

honestly- i have NEVER heard anyone use this word based on THIS connotation that it may have. Its quite a stretch.  Maybe it's a truth of the history of the word, but i'm sure if we all researched every word in our daily vocabulary, we'd find quite a few shocking statements.
