Lawyers fee for Closing - how much should it cost?
I just got a quote from a lawyer for the closing costs. He quoted me $2000
Does that sounds like he's in the ballpark?

No, way off. Most closing costs are around $15,000 I believe, give or take a few thousand.
This may be one part of the closing costs, but it doesn't sound as if it's the whole thing. Did he mean his fee for closing on a house?

Our office charges around $1250. I think we should charge much more than that though since there is sooo much invovled in RE closings and always a problem!

Mine was ~2K five years ago (it was gratis, though...) but I used a large firm in Manhattan to close on my Seaford home.
Is your attorney doing anything extraordinary for you? Are you selling and buying? His fee seems high if you're just buying.

In total, our lawyer got paid $1,800 from us. $1,200 was "our fee" and he was also the bank's lawyer so $600 was the "bank fee".
Is your lawyer the bank's lawyer as well?

Ours was $850 for a co-op. Not sure if it's more with different kinds of purchases (ie. house, co-op, townhome, etc) or if it depends on the price of the home either.

I think our's was $800 or $850. IMO, $2000 is high. And how can the lawyer be your's and the bank's? Isn't that a conflict of interest?

this is really helpful - that was the first lawyer we called b/c he was a referral through another lawyer.

This is s conflict of interest--I am surprised the lawyer woulod do that. The lawyers fee should be between 9-1300. 2K is exorbitant unles syou have some sort of property or title issues

it's a co-op and there is no broker - we are buying direct from the owner
when my dh closed on the co-op we are in now, he had a lawyer who charged him $500 so we were thinking b/c the apt is more $, the lawyer's fee is higher
he wasn't happy w/ the lawyer he used the last time
but $2000 sounds high compared to what we hear.

Ours was $750, but it was someone doing us a favor so I know it was low. However, I think $2000 is too high.
