I know how you feel about noisy neighbors. We live in an apt., and when the weather's nice, with the windows open, you hear EVERYTHING. Or people don't realize their voices echo in the hallway. I know you said private house, but in close quarters, unfortunately, it seems to come with the territory. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yep unfortunately, which is precisely why I chose not to say anything to them and VENT it here..and BOY was that a mistake. Chat Icon

Not a mistake at all.

Someone over the weekend Vented about their noisy neighbors also.

All I said was the word Ghetto caused drama before. And ghetto is not the way someone acts. Its where someone might live Chat Icon

I understand, but ghetto WHERE I LIVE and other places as well is used for both the way people act and where they live. This is a first for me having heard it's a word that causes Drama.

Re: Ghetto Next door neighbors ...

You do have choices.

If they are violating the terms of their lease, I would imagine they can be subject to eviction. Talk to your landlord.

If they are disturbing the peace, you can call the cops and then deal with looking over your shoulder all the time while sharing the same house.

or

You could move. With a newborn on the way, it is something to think about. I cannot imagine it is going to be easy with all of the disturbances they seem to cause.

Re: Ghetto Next door neighbors ...

hmmmm im hispanic and part of my family lives in harlem
we all call it the ghetto and we're all proud of the fact that thats where we come from

i just dont see anything wrong with the word....

literally it means a low income area with a specific ethnic group
and i believe the term started in Europe

and it refered to Jewish neighborhoods.

i think the "drama" is over that she is calling the PEOPLD ghetto, not the neighborhood ghetto.

Maybe that is why I don't undersand why it causes drama either. I have never encountered a situation where it has. And, never once did any of my friends (some of which live in a ghetto - by definition) find it offensive to label one's actions as "ghetto."

It was hardly a neighborhood or a community. It started in Poland and other places where Jewish people were FORCED into dreadful living conditions with few rights at all before they were led to their deaths. In THIS country, it has socio-economic (and sometimes cultural) connotations as well.

can i just say that everyone knew what she meant when she said ghetto

it is very commonly used blah blah blah that doesn't make it right and all that BUT it does make it a well known term and everyone understands what it means

i am sorry - i am new here so i dont want to add to the drama. . . but it is just so ridiculous that people take offense to something they KNOW isnt meant to be offensive.

anyway, your ghetto neighbors sound horrible and i hope the issue is resolved soon! Chat Icon

I think it is, just like if someone called me a Spic, it would upset me. For most people, they say something is ghetto when they think something/someone is low class, that is horrible, I would never allow my children to use that word, ever!!Chat Icon

Yet, you used the word spic twice in this thread. How is that any better?

spic is a racial slur

ghetto just describes how someone acts

or even an object or event
my car is ghetto
this party is ghetto

etc

i don't see the connection AT ALL

to the OP sorry to use your post for this debate! lol

I honestly understand where the op is coming from, I also lived in a neighborhood like that so I know where she is coming from.

I don't think she was trying to offend.
