Would you???
ever donate a kidney, bone marrow or a piece of your liver to a stranger?? I hear about and read all about these great living donors, but I would be afraid I think...maybe I am too selfish. Maybe my bone marrow???
I AM an organ donor though and am a huge advocate of that... what would you do???

Re: Would you???
Kelly I feel the same as you. I am an organ donor. As far as living donation - If it was for someone I know, I'd do it in a heartbeat. My cousin had a partial-liver donation from her sister.
For a stranger, I think I would donate bone marrow. I don't know if I could go through real surgery with risks if it was for a stranger.
Now I feel like crap.

Re: Would you???
I really do not know. I think I would be inclined to donate bone marrow because over time it would regenerate itself. As far as organs go, I am not ready to make a commitment of that nature at this stage of my life - even after death. But to tell you the truth, I am not sure if I even can donate organs or marrow - I'd have to ask my doctor.
I was a very frequent blood donor for a long time and I can no longer give blood. That is how I felt I could best contribute to people who needed my help.
I really hope this thread stays free from judgement. People have very personal opinions about this.

Re: Would you???
Yes, yes and yes...Imagine being able to save someone's life. To me that would be the most wonderful thing I could do with my own life. I am on the bone marrow transplant list and I donate platelets as often as I can.

Re: Would you???
Bone marrow- yes! I've been contacted twice so far (w/in 5 years) and went for the further testing both times (though they both ended up with a better match). I've got special blood
organ donation- to a Stranger- No. only bc my family doesnt have the best health history and may need them one day. I tried to donate my kidney to my mom, but she wouldnt let me b/c i didnt have kids yet and she didnt want that to take away the opportunity.
but when i die- its all free game. I've seen, first hand, the amazing difference that it can make- i couldnt imagine not giving back.
