Ummm - too much cowbell?
Went to a wedding last night and saw something I thought odd - the entertainment! They had instruments set up and first I thought it was a band - but it was really just a percussion accompaniment(sp) to songs from a DJ! Very odd - they would play the record of a song and the "band" would play saxophone along to the music and there was much hitting of the cowbell too! It just seemed so weird to me - sort of messed up the original recording of the song! Anyone ever seen something like this before?

Re: Ummm - too much cowbell?
I saw this at a wedding a couple of years ago. I thought it was a little odd, but I guess it's just to do something different.

I had percussion with my DJ at the wedding but it wasn't overwhelming or anything.

Re: Ummm - too much cowbell?
The DJ for my sister's wedding decided to "throw in" this feature for my sister's wedding without asking her first, and when the reception started, she was like, "Good lord! What IS that? Stop! Stop!" It was horrible. As a musician, that completely turns my stomach. I think there's absolutely no point to it. JMO.

Re: Ummm - too much cowbell?
Some people who don't have a band or can't afford one or just like DJs better want the live aspect of music. They add percussionists, sax players and even singers.
I think it's overkill and I have seen it at weddings before. Isn't the DJ enough?
