ok this is embarrasing but i think i need some help..

this may be long and im sorry

ok. my dd is turning 1 in july and is starting to imitate things..and im a little nervous because of my short temper..im not a maniac..but i do have a tendency to raise my voice quicker than some people and curse in my car if i think someone is annoying me how they driveChat Icon ( form of road rage i guessChat Icon ) my problem is that i have NO control over it right now. especially my truck driver mouth..i hate it..and i cant be doing this..
an example of my dd imitating is that the other day she was screaming..so piercing to my ear that i got up from the table. walked away and just pretty much growled and was like" ahhh i cant take it" (did not think i was loud)well she clenched her fists and did the same..dh and i laughed but..its not funny now.

my question is..does anyone have any idea how i can stop this?or control it? im really willing to see someone about it but who..? im not an angry person..or crazy..but i just want to control my attitude. and not let my dd know that you should easily get frustrated..there are more serious things out there then some one cutting me off on the road..especially if its an accident..thanks to anyone that has the time to read this..but i want to change things..and it has to be soon.Chat Icon

Re: ok this is embarrasing but i think i need some help..

I could have written this myselfChat Icon I'm trying to be more self-aware, and I think about it this way: I go to work all day long and don't do those things, so I should be able to be home all day long and not do those things. For me, I think it's a lack of awareness when I'm at home. I feel so comfortable in my environment that I let it all fly out of my mouth, but now that Ava can speak, I have to have the same sense of awareness that I have at work. It's worked really well so far, and just being aware of it has cut it down about 90%. Do I still lose my cool? Yes. I'm hotheaded, I know this, but I'm constantly working on. I asked JT to give me a reminder if I'm starting to get too intense and don't realize it. He doesn't have to do it often, but he brings me back down to realityChat Icon

ya know that is so it! i am way too comfy in my environment..but i can control my cursing and keep my mouth shut when i "have to" ( like at my IL'S.) lol..but then my problem is i sometimes save it for my dh..Chat Icon so i feel i cant win.

thanks so much rachael..i felt stupid posting this because i really dont want people to think im crazy..since they dont really know me..but i have these small issues that i should work on. thats a good idea about telling jt to remind you..ill have to tell dh to keep up on me..the prob is..im pg..hopefully i dont turn on him when he lets me know..LOL.

Let me know if you figure it our. Damien's newest saying to his already vast repertoire is "Oh Crap" and that is tame compared to the rest.

Last year during the fireworks display at the Ducks game he was yelling F'ing a'hole very loudly.

ETA: My DH has a horrible temper and very short fuse.

I can totally relate, so I definitely don't think you're crazy, I just have a bit of a temper and a flair for the dramaticChat Icon It upsets me, however, because I can see that Ava has a temper, as well, and THAT has been my biggest reality check. To see a one year old with a stubborn attitude is scary, so I am trying with every ounce of my being to keep my mouth shut, and stay calm. It's important for her and it's important for me to let things go. Who needs to be stressed over stupid things? Chat Icon

The step son I raised since he was a baby couldn't say Firecrakers..We were in our new home and had Firework, he was yelling at the top of his lungs in the front yard (he was 4 )
Yeah Fireinfvukers! Fireinfvckers!!! He couldn't pronounce it right apparently! I was LMAO and also mortified because we had only been there 1 month and didn't really know the neighbors yet!

You are not alone. I tend to be hotheaded too and I am starting to see Aly, my one yr old with a temper herself. When she doesnt get what she wants lately, she screams VERY loudly. This is my fault, but I wont admit that to anyone else...I need to work on being conscience of this around my DD

Re: ok this is embarrasing but i think i need some help..

I feel your pain. When my 2 year old hears a car horn he screams "f***ing B***h" (I had a road rage moment months ago and he never forgot it).

I try not to listen to him when he does it, if he sees a reaction, he'll just keep doing it. I try really hard not to curse in front of him or lose my temper, not easy at all.
