Sobriety Check
THANK GOD i wasnt drinking last night (not that i EVER drink and drive!!!)
I was caught in a major sobriety check on Main St in Smithtown around 1am last night!! COPS EVERYWHERE!!! He looked into my car and asked if i was wearing my seat belt. Then he told me to "move on". My heart was POUNDING and i wasnt even "gulity"

Thank God. But, they need to do that area...do you know how many people leave those bars drunk and drive home?? I used to be there all the time(until I got old!!  )...they are always there!

thats funny cuz there was one near my house too. they have it randomly in this one spot on Meeker, the service road to the BQE. one block before my place.

DO they publish the Sobriety check point locations there in the newspaper before hand?
THey do here in Orange County Ca! It defeats the purpose IMHO! I'm always like  What's the point?!!!

I never heard that they publish them here but that doesnt mean they dont. I agree w/ you, thats the dumbest thing.

4th of july week is a huge DWI month, so the checkpoints are in full force fo the next week. be careful Call a cab, or stay at home and get a nice buzz on

I am so glad they do it there. When I lived in Smithtown, you couldn't even drive down that road at night without people playing Frogger!
7 people would try to cross and then they saw a car coming.....
5 would proceed, 2 would go back
then 3 would stop in the middle, 2 would go all the way across and one would try to head back to be with the people who didn't cross 
TERRIBLY DANGEROUS for even the sober driver to watch those attempting to even cross the street to get to the parking lot!

When people drink they think they are invincible! I had a young early twentysomething guy step in front of my car in my neighborhood some years back. I screamed at him 'YOu are drunk not made of steel!

Right? I just can't believe it!
ETA;At my Company Christmas party last year they actually told us where the Sobriety check point was and gave alternate routes! As someone who was seriously injured by a drunk driver I was appauled! I would never drink and drive and possibly put some family thru what my family has endured with me ,or god forbid worse,since the accident

I didn't go out at all on the 4th fourth for years.
I can't believe how many people still drive drunk!!!

How do they do a sobriety check? Did they check out my friend's face as she drove by to see if she looked drunk?? Maybe they stop people at random to check them out.

It was probably an "inspection check" with a watchful eye out for tipsy people. I know what you mean about getting nervous when you see them. However, they were there to stop the bad guys so  .

They are steping this up lately. They have a grant to add this around nassau and suffolk that the Katie Fynn family helped to get. I work for the police department and there is alot of overtime for this. I got stopped at one once also and I was so nervous. (I wasent drinking either)
