I agree, I love any favors that are edible! For my shower, they gave out cookbooks (they got them at the dollar store) with a potholder. I thought that was a kind of cool/different idea.

This is what I received in the past year:
Candy
Soap and loofah that said "from jenn's shower to yours"
Mini wine bottles
Tea bags and coffee packets that said "the perect blend"
and one shower chose not to give any favor at all.

For my shower we did - Body washes from Bath and Body works with a tag that says "From Stephanie's Shower to Yours"
Edible favors are great.... I also got a nice wine stopper. The theme was Italian Retreat since bride/groom were going to Italy for thier honeymoon. Everyone had to bring a bottle of wine from Italy for the shower.

I just hosted my best friend's shower at my house in April. She had calla lily bouquets, centerpieces, etc. at the wedding so for the shower we gave out wine stoppers with calla lilies on top. For the bingo prizes I had heart shaped measuring spoons (totally cute!!!), coasters, ice cream scoop, etc. I love the measuring spoons and if the other BMs were willing to spend more $$, I would have done that.

at my shower we did girly little jewelery boxes and they matched my wedding favor which was a clock...they had the same patterns.
my mom knew what my wedding favor was and thought it would be cute to match them so that the girls could put the clock and jewelry boxes next to each other on their dressers/vanities.

For my shower (3yrs ago) everyone got mini watering cans that had a scented yankee candle. I think yankee does all types of favors.
I like chocolate favors too.

for my shower my sisters bought a huge container of cookie cutters and gave one with a really cute cookie recipe attached to it. Each recipe was different and they tried to match them up.....ie ginger snap recipe went with the cookie cutter of a gingerbread man. A lot of work, but they looked great.
The centerpiece was a plastic 4 cup measuring cup with an herb plant in it, again each table was different parsley, basil, mint etc
And since they rented a hall, they did all the food themselves and it was really creative. They did a huge salad bar. Every veggie you can imagine and had my dad bbq'ing all day the day before...chicken, steak, shrimp, tuna. All different dressings. It was really different and I feel like it worked out really well.

My favors were chocolate flowers. Each flower was made up of several petals, each of which was candy coated chocolate wrapped in cellophane. They were beautiful!!
My FMIL (who is from Hershey, PA) also brought giant Hershey kisses for everyone with personalized flags.
I think anything edible is a safe bet.

For my friends shower we did the shower jells and I think a washcloth.....
My shower...my mom did umbrellas......it rained the day of my wedding...and a bunch of my freinds all had their pink umbrellas from my shower!

I personally like the edible ones chocolates, gourmet pretzels, cookies, or nice candles.
--Seen some nice coasters.
I have gotten the coffee scooper and wine stoppers and they tarnished quickly.

I feel edible favors will never go to waste. For my cousins shower, I did boxes with those mini black and whites and madelines from Costco. My bridal shower had the personalized hershey bars and my baby shower had popcorn
