Buying plots right after you get married??

Is that completely obsurd or what??

A co-worker of mine was just telling me how her neighbor's newly married daugher & husband just purchased a plot for themselves.

Talk about planning ahead. I guess they want to get a ticket early for the best seats in the houseChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Okay.. that wasn't funny. But seriously....

I never thought about it until my mom passed away suddenly and she did not have plot. I know told my DH that we need to start looking for one.

We dont have ours but my whole family bought plots in the same cemetary where my grandfather is. The cemetary had a BOGO sale if you can believe it. Chat Icon

I don't see anything wrong with it...it takes the financial burden off of your loved ones and reduces the chances of conflict ... over who pays

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Believe it or not, the cemetaries are filling up...so if you want to be in a place where all your other loved ones are, then yeah, ya kinda have to plan ahead. My brother was buried in one of the last four rows in Holy Rood Cemetary. Now they just did a small expansion, but still that cemetary, for ground plots is basically full!!

I agree but thats a little too early, no? I mean I understand things DO happen, but still...with that said, I want to be cremated even though I'm Catholic. I'm not lying to you when I think I'm going to draft up a will soon bc my husband already told me that he will not do it! I told him I'll come back to haunt him lol...I just don't want to be embalmed and placed on display kwim...just burn my body and bury my ashes...

It sounds very responsible. It's a hard subject to deal with and they are getting it out of the way.

Re: Buying plots right after you get married??

I think it is very important to have all your affairs in order. Who knows when anyones time will come. You should have a very specific will, and plots if you so choose to be buried in one. We did wills right after we were married and I absolutly do not want to be buried anywhere. I want to be creamated, and that is very straightforeward in my will. Who wants to end up like that poor Terry Schiavo. I want my wished to be known, and I don't want to burden anyone with expenses

I think it's actually smart. You are guaranteed a plot of land at today's price. Who knows how much it will cost to own a deed to a plot of land in 60 years.

I don't see anything wrong with it, you have to do it eventually, why not now?

We haven't done this yet. MIL and FIL just purchased plots at St. Charles and asked us about it. DH thinks its weird and plus they are expensive!

My parents bought there plots already so everything is taken care of. They don't want the burden to be on us after they are gone.
