I am totally in the minority here, but I really applaude Rosie for speaking her mind and for opposing this horrendous war in Iraq.

I also don't see what is so horrible about this picture. IMO, I think Rosie is making a point about society and the war's effect on the psyche of children in America, and also the effect of violence on young children across the globe. Watching the video on her website, I think the point is that her daughter used to want to play dress up princess and now she wants to play dress up solider. the kid is choosing to play with the ammo.

Maybe it's a little tacky of her to put the picture up and use it to make her point, but I am pretty shocked that some people are saying that Rosie should have her kids taken away from her and that CPS should be called. For what- her kid wants to play with toy ammunition because violence and guns is what she sees on tv and the news every day?

i dont think she should have her kids taken away, or that it even should have been a consideration- lots of us have crazy parents, whatever. Chat Icon

But, I don't applaud her, nor do i think that she's done anything to support her point. She doesnt need to dress her kid up to speak her mind- sh*t flows from her mouth like water from a faucet. She's childish and petty, and its old already.

If she's opposed to her daughter seeing violence on TV, then perhaps she should spend more time censoring her children's viewing than "fighting her good fight". Chat Icon

Re: Controversy

Children in school get suspended for having weapons - real or fake. When parents provide them, I would think it becomes a bigger issue.

Re: Controversy

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't go stringing bullets around Ava's neck, but I don't really get what the uproar is about. Just being honest here. I'm not saying it's a great thing or the right thing, but it's a picture that was obviously meant to send a message, whatever that may be.

It's funny, I agree with this.
I don't care about Rosie one way or another. Much like Paris, she is a nonentity to me and has no affect on my life.

BUT, because of this thread - I looked at the video and read some of the blog pertaining to this pic.

Her daughter did this on her own playing with her brothers. Rosie posted it as a statement.
Right or Wrong, it's an excellent statement in my opinion. Children of this age are at war in many countries right now.
Being upset at a celebrity for posting a pic is the wrong thing to be upset about. We should be WAY more upset about the fact that these militants and terrorists draft "babies" into war.Chat Icon

But... if she's SO anti-war, WHY would she have this 'costume' in her house? I dont buy it. Its her childish, petty cry for attention. She knew what she was doing... she's a fool, but a strategic one, nonetheless.

I wonder... how does one say that war goes against everything they stand for, and then buy their children soldier costumes and life-like ammunition? I mean, the one thing that disturbs me as much as the war disturbs her, is everything that Hitler did... Yet, for some reason, I don't picture that i'd ever slap a swastik on my kid and post it on the net? Let alone, have a bunch of nazi 'costumes' just laying around. Chat Icon

again, i really dont care about the kid wearing it... but, I don't think that Rosie has done anything valient or commendable either. Chat Icon

As I said, I don't care about her or her views. Whatever the deal is with the kid wearing the costume (and I'm sure it's a media play) - the real issue is how upset everyone gets over Rosie's daughter wearing a costume yet there aren't ever any threads about the horrors of children being recruited into wars around the world.
That is the real issue and the one that we should be upset about. But, since it doesn't happen here noone ever seems to really care about it, we as a people seem to care more about stupid celebrities and what they do.

This is just as disturbing to me as the Michael Jackson "baby over ledge" incident.

Have you ever read her blogs? I did one day for "fun" and all she does is ramble and rant. She has definitely gone over the deep end...

But hey, ladies! She's got money and can do whateverthefuck she wants!!!

Re: Controversy

I REALLY don't think it was ever meant to be even half as deep as some people are making it out to be. If you read the comments on her blog, Rosie indicates that she just snapped the picture while her children were playing soldier. She didn't dress her child up to take this picture. She just happened to get this picture and probably thinks she can make a political statement with it now... when all she is really doing is exposing that her kids play soldier, too, just like tons of other kids.

Don't get me wrong, I think Rosie is nuts (and I hate when any celebrity posts public pictures of their children, as their children should be left alone)... but I really don't think this was all as planned out as we think.

Re: Controversy

I really don't understand the controversy here. Her kids were playing and she took a picture. People on this very site do this every day. Because of the nature of the game the kids were playing and the state our country is in right now over the war and because she is very opinionated about her views on the war, people are taking it the wrong way. Its not like she took her daughter, forced her to dress in fatigues, gave her a gun and ammo and bloodied her up like she was in a war zone.
As for having the "costume" around the house - what is wrong with having having some camo clothes in the house, its actually in style now and you can find it at old navy. But even if she did have a soldier costume, I don't see the big deal? Kids all over the country are "army guys" for Halloween, and no one would blink an eye.
After taking the pic she probably thought she could make some kind of statement by posting it, and that was stupid of her (or maybe it wasn't, look at the attention she is getting), but i don't think there was anything malicious done here.
