Father and Father-in-law vent
So on Father's Day the first thing my Dad says is "Wow, you're putting on weight!" ...um I'm 7 1/2 months pregnant and have a baby belly you insensitive jerk.
Over instant messenger, my Father-in-Law greets me "Hi Fatty" - um, you haven't seen me since January and how on earth could you think that's ok to say that to any pregnant woman?
I lost 25lbs on weightwatchers before I got pregnant so gaining it back (even though I know it's for a great reason) hasn't been easy for me to accept. How can they be so insensitive - almost hurtful.

First,  for your hurt feelings.
Second, while the comments might seem out of line, I have to admit that I call myself "a cow," "the fat one," and other things like that while pregnant. That doesn't mean I wasn't hurt when others said it. I would get upset as well.
Third, being the wisea$$ I am, I made all these comments about myself and yet wanted to run and hide (and cry) AND strangle my 6 year old when, in the hospital literally HOURS after giving birth, she reaches out to me, pats my tummy and says: the baby is out, why is your belly still fat?  I've lost 21 of my 33 pounds and yesterday she called my tummy fat AGAIN...finally I scolded her for the comments and reminded her it isn't nice to call someone fat, especially someone who just had a baby.
Fourth, I think if I have future pregnancies, I won't call myself fat anymore.
Sorry they are insensitive. As men, they should know better than to comment on a woman's weight!

I was sensitive about my weight before getting pregnant and even more so now. I would feel the same way as you. I think they just don't get it, unless you come out and say how hurtful it is to say these things to you.

People can be SOO insensitive. I understand your hurt feelings. Amongst my friends, i b(*&ch and joke about myself - being a tubby etc... now that i'm pg but it doesn't mean its not insulting when someone else says it. My mother does this to me ALL the time. She calls and asks how her fat daughter is, she jokes she doesn't recognize me anymore etc... i know she loves me and does it to tease me and because she knows it gets to me but it still gets annoying - if she weren't my mom i'd be REALLY p'd off.
My younger brothers greets me as hi fatso but i know he's teasing me. His girlfriend heard him and yelled at him and he got all apologetic, he genuinely didn't think it would upset me - he's 29

thats so rude...but i bet they don't even realize. I've been referred to as fatty too and I've put very little weight on other than in my belly. People just dont think, I try to just blow it off
