well- considering my Dad's GF is technically not divorced- I have alot of opinions on this
but one you move out- you should move on- these things can take years to settle
alot of people get remarried as soon as the ink is dry
life is too short- if my DH decided to leave me and I met a great guy 10 days later - why wait?

When I went thru my divorce all was said and done and I filed immediately after he left and was free 6 months later. We both dated before the judge signed the final decree.

If you have moved out and filed paperwork, you both know that it is over. I would have said just "moved out" except they may just need distance and then will work on it again. But if the paperwork has been filed, you have made your intentions clear and you can both start to move on.
Another place this gets tricky is regarding children. If you have kids together and you are STARTING divorce proceedings, it may be hard for the kids to see Mommy with another man.

I don't think there is a timetable on dating after divorce. As long as the person is emotionally ready for it, then go for it. Only the person going through the divorce knows when the timing is right. Especially since there are so many different reasons people get a divorce. Some are more shocking than others and it may take more time for that person to heal.

I was very discreet for a long time due to my children's feelings. They were very young and I didn't want to confuse them more then they already were. I also stopped dating for a long time to devote myself to them since their "dad" stopped being a regular part of their lives. HIs loss as well as theirs!

I chose "when the papers are filed" but really once you move out I think you are free to do what you want. My parents' divorce took a few years to be settled, but they both dated once they were living apart.
What I have a problem with is the people who say they are "separated" when really they're just sleeping in another room in the same house.

I say filing papers. It's almost like covering your a$$ in the event they try to use a new relationship against you in the divorce. Since you are still technically married, you would be cheating if you moved on to the next relationship...but to me, filing is somewhat like a marriage license. You aren't married YET, just intending to be. You aren't divorced YET, but intending to be.
I personally feel there is less of a stigma these days to date during a divorce/separation when there is legal work involved than if you haven't filed yet. Though traditionally, I could see the argument that one should wait until "the ink dries" so to speak.

Precisely why I've lost respect for Brad and why I will never gain even the slightest amount for Angelina. I'll be honest, I never saw Jennifer as the motherly type and always felt their marriage might fail b/c of kids BUT I always kind of believed Brad had the brains to come across a little better. She seemed selfish and he seemed old-fashioned. But hey, I could have it all wrong...

Being divorced myself...Once you aren't living together anymore, it's over.
It took me five years to get my divorce cuz my lawyer skipped town with my money and I had to file grievances and then refile for the divorce. I was dating the whole time.

as far as us normals, i think once papers are filed. b/c then you both know its over and can move on in your lives.
