Spinoff to: How far away...
If you live far away from your parents, who moved away? You or them?
For me it was DH and I that moved away. My mom and my dad both live on LI (in the same town) and we lived a mile away from each of them until we moved to FL last month.

I moved away from them. DH moved away from his family, too. Both sets of parents still live in the houses we grew up in.

My mom moved to Connecticut. Not too far..but far enough. If I could have my way I'd move to Florida though.

I got an offer from a Chicago based company my senior year in college. So I moved there less than 2 months after graduating.

Now, they moved to Westbury

I moved to Charlotte while both of our families still lived in Long Island....since we moved, my IL's have moved down to Charlotte and my mom to Georgia

My Inlaws did also
My brother moved to FL 4 years ago
and my Sister moved to Maryland a year ago

We'll be moving to the Charlotte area (in 11 days!!!) and my mom and dad (divorced) will still be here on LI. My mom plans to retire this summer and move there as well. My dad will be staying here. My ILs are on the fence...I think once they get a look at the type of life they could have, they'll be following us..but who knows.

They are moving from us...My dad is retired 6 years & the taxes & cost of living here on LI finally caught up to them. My mom will retire in 2 more weeks & they will be in Maine with my brother!!!

i moved away from them. DH grew up 2 hours away from where i grew up... we met during college. so we had a long distance dating relationship. after we got engaged, he got a great job at a place near his hometown (2 hours away from my hometown).... so i decided to move up there so he could keep that job... so its 2 hours away from my parents.
his parents are moving away from us in a couple weeks... his dads job got transferred and they are moving to PA.

We both moved away, but DH moved farther than I. DH is the only one in his HUGE immediate and extended to move out of Rochester, NY. I moved from LI to NYC, but I still see my parents often, so I don't really consider it moving "away".

I moved- 3000 miles away 8 years ago. Its so hard.
But they are planning on moving to CA to be near their grandchildren in a year or so
