are they easy to ride?

I want to use my car less & because of the big basket this would be perfect for grocery shopping. The store is about 4.5 miles each way, so I thought this would be better than a regular bike.
Anyone ever have one of these?
I think I might hear the music from the wizard of oz when I ride it thoughChat Icon

My grandmother had something similar when I was a kid - it's a cinch to ride. It doesn't handle corners very well but that's part of the fun! Chat Icon

My MIL has one - I have never ridden it, but she has one arm and has no problem with it!

I don't have one of those, but when I lived in D.C. I rode a regular bike to the grocery store and wore my backpack to carry groceries. Riding is hard with a lot of groceries weighing you down though! Can you borrow a regular bike to ride the route first to see how it goes?

my great grandmother had one of those.

Isn't more for older women? I'd probably laugh if I saw a younger woman on the road with one of those... hehehehehehehe

Re: does anyone have one of these?

thanks for the replies, there is a teenaged boy in my neighborhood that has one, I think he rides it as a goof. I think I'll ask him to let me try it.
I'm really trying to be more carbon neutral & since I drive 100 miles a day I need to be really proactive.
I don't care if it looks like a granny bike, as long as I can fit my 4 big reusable bags in the basket. They fit all of our food for the week. I'd need a trailer to carry that much stuff with a regular bike.

Yup, usually 4 days a week but sometimes 5. My car is really good on gas but its still bothering me.
I'm really thinking about quitting my job after almost 10 years so I can work closer to home. I don't really mind the time in the car, I mind the effect my time in the car has on the environment.

Kathi, I'm not sure if you could get your boys to stay in the basket, but they migh fitChat Icon

Re: does anyone have one of these?

I love where we live but its not public transportation friendly.
Next week I'm going to try driving south about 10 minutes to the train line there & taking that to my job. There is a station a block from my office.
If the train times work out that will be great. Then I can buy my train ticket with my flex account, double bonus.
