Do your IL's forget that
your side of family still exists?????
My IL's always assume that we are spending the 'holiday' with them - but they never seem to remember that my family is around too.
I know DH's family is not here all year around, but I would like to spend holidays with my family too.

Re: Do your IL's forget that
My IL's constantly expect my side of the family to pick them up and bring them home for every occasion. I no longer try to plan on both families gtg because of this. There is never a thank you on their part. We're having my IL's over for dinner on Father's Day and my FIL called earlier to see if my Mom was coming.

Re: Do your IL's forget that
Always!! And if we don't spend part of the holiday there I know they are not happy......we decided to split the holidays instead of traveling back and forth in traffic every year. One year it took 2 hours to get from thanksgiving dinner at my Moms to dessert at my IL's. After that year....I don't care who is mad I am not doing that again!!

Re: Do your IL's forget that
I am just so irratated about it.
They not once thought about my DH's 1st real Father's Day (last year Father's day was only a couple of days after I came home from having a c-section and I still went to the IL's (cause they insisted) and they invited my parents - because I was like what about my Dad?
Then they just said SIL was cooking, and that we are having it over there. So I responded 'We'll see - I have to see what we are doing with my Dad'
Now I have to feel bad - I think we will just have a day at home just us. I hate this - I am always in the middle

Re: Do your IL's forget that
This is the one thing about any special occasion or holiday that I don't enjoy - trying to make everyone else happy with visits. I say stay home and enjoy yourselves if you want. It's DH's day too!

Yes, it's just really hard to plan enough in advance to accomodate two sets of families. It cannot be last minute anymore, which is a big problem for us. We never know what/when we'll be told to do until it is the day before.

Re: Do your IL's forget that
Yes. I'm kinda miffed a little that I spoke with my MIL about doing fathers day on Saturday with his side and Sunday with my side on Memorial Day. She forgot and called tell us what time dinner will be on Sunday. I said you can do it whenever you want because I am going to be with my family and DH can go up to his. Plus, they want to eat at 7, which means 8. I have work the next day. Sorry, I can't come. Thanks for letting me vent out my story on your post. I kinda feel a bit better now.

Re: Do your IL's forget that
Well - the thing that bites me too - is the person that is having it - is going away for the weekend and is flying home about 1:00 that day. Why would she have it?
I told DH to call and tell them that we are going to have it.

I agree! It can easily ruin a holiday! And thankfully my Mom is really understanding but it is so hard! I have to see my IL's, my Mom and my Dad (parents are divorced).
This year is DH's 1st fathers day too and i want it to be nice for him.
