No, it's not the greatest area (My dad was a NYPD officer in East New York for several years). I was recently at a job site near there (Schenectady Avenue off of Eastern Parkway) and I went during the day and the ride wasn't too bad.

if it is east NY, my aunt was an elementary teacher there. they didnt even have a photocopy machine in the building. She quit after a month. (and she was a lawyer for 15 years before going back to school!)

Not a good area. It's right near Brownsville where my dad grew up and it was a bad area even then.

Dh said it is in Brownsville. He was in the 73rd Precinct and said not a good area at all. In fact lots of crime such as robbings and rapes so I would stay clear away from there. Sorry but I would look elsewhere.

can I ask why you are asking?
certain parts of ENY and Brownsville are being touted as "up and coming".
it is a most low-income area. lots of hard working people, and sadly, lots of crime.
I wouldn't catergorize it as "scary" though...unless you are Dorothy. it's definitely not Kansas, but it's not the 4th level of hell either.
