Im starting to think...

...that being a "kept woman" sitting on her butt eating bon-bons all day is really not that bad of an idea.

Re: Im starting to think...

I have skills and permanent licenses if the butt-sitting doesn't work out. I have SOMETHING to fall back on.

Oh, that would be heaven. I would love to have some stupid part time job just to get me out...or even just to volunteer somewhere a couple of days a week and have all the time in the world to myself.

Re: Im starting to think...

I used to think I would like to be a "kept woman", but when I was between jobs for 6 weeks, I realized that I was really bored & miserable!

Also, the fact is that nearly 50% of marriages end in divorce. It is much harder to re-enter the workforce when you've been out of it for awhile.

Keep the paychecks comin'!!!!!!!

Re: Im starting to think...

I've been the "kept woman" for almost a year now... I had the opportunity to do it for one more year and I am not- I am going back to my job!

I will admit, there were plenty of nice times, not having to work a stressful job, come and go as I please, sleep later than I would have if I was working, work out, cook nicer meals... there were MANY positives to it!

BUT, when you are home and NOONE else is because they are all at work- it is not that exciting to have to do everything on your own all the time...

Also, there is something to be said about bringing home your own paycheck! I had to get a pt job so that I didn't go insane! It did the trick!

Now, I have a small paycheck... see other adults, LOVE my PT job- it is at a tutoring center- not a lot of $$, but I just love it there! Kids are great, coworkers are great!

Still, I am going back to my "real" job next year (I am a teacher)

Being off made me realize even more that I love what I was doing, even on those stressful days where you think nothing is going right or you are not getting through to the kids, or they are misbehaving... it's all worth it!

Re: Im starting to think...

I don't think I'd be able to be a kept woman forever, but after working since I was 17, I'd sure like to see how it would feel for alittle while (like a year or so).

Re: Im starting to think...

I understand how staying at home, especially without children could get boring after a while. when push comes to shove, I think I will be working until my body says "STOP."

I have been teaching for 11 years and I get this way every June. I also teach summer school for 6 weeks out of financal necessity. At that point, I have 3 weeks to regroup and start fresh in September. I love what I do, but after the day I had yesterday, I need a mental health day. My post was a simple vent.

I was fortunate to grow up well and really want for nothing, but that being said, I grew up grounded and know nothing comes without hard work. I am in a VERY different generation that that of my parents and perhaps wish things were a little bit easier. One can dream right?

Watch out for those bon-bons. If you're kept for too long with them, they'll trade you in for a newer model.

I was a kept woman briefly.

It's not fun unless you have other women that are kept so you can hang out.

Also it's uncomfortable, relying on someone else for $.

Now an independently wealthy, retired woman would be nice.

YES! A much better alternative. At least I'd know that I paid for the bon-bons myself! Chat Icon
