do they have any prenatal testing for this?

Its not considered a genetic disorder unless associated with another disorder, thus there is no prenatal tests for it... here is more info CP

no its a neurological disorder. i saw Extreme Home Makeover last night and the child on the program had it which made me wonder about the prenatal testing... so sad

I always thought it was caused by a lack of oxygen - usually because of the umbillical cord?

CP is not genetic in origin so there is no gene to test for...

There are many different causes and many different degrees of CP...
My daughter, Ariel, has Mosaic Down Syndrome. She went to school at United Cerebral Palsy for Early Intervention and Preschool Services. Thus Ive had quite the education.

 how old is Ariel? if you don't mind my asking when was she diagnosed?

Ariel was diagnosed with Mosaic Down Syndrome when she was 6 weeks old..her doctors NEVER suspected that she had Down Syndrome..she just doesnt look the part. She was tested for Turners Syndrome. Which is when you only have one sex chromosome instead of 2. Babies born with Turners Syndrome tend to have the "fat pad" at the back of the neck just like Down Syndrome babies..(thats what is being tested for during the Ultrascreen sonogram)..BOY were they surprised when it came back Down Syndrome. A lot of children with the Mosaic form of DS arent diagnosed until much older.
Ariel doesnt have CP. She went to school through UCP b/c their program is so wonderful.
Take a peek at my profile..there's a pic of Ariel on there..she's, GULP, 13 now!!!!!!

She is beautiful - they all are! Its all so confusing. How would you even know to test or for what? Did she have symptoms? You must have your hands full with 5 kids - girls! i don't know you do it!!

No. It's a neurological issue. A problem with one of the cranial nerve. I don't think they can detect it with a test.
