Freddy update
It's been a while since I gave status.
He's still at Jamaica Hospital and Tuesday is the day they have to report back to the insurance company about his progress. At that point they decide whether they continue to authorize payment for inpatient care.
After Jamaica he will go to a subacute facility, more like nursing home but with a really intesive rehab schedule like he has now. These places tend to be cheaper.
I hope they can keep him there a while longer since he has made some improvements. My cousin went last night to see him and hasn't seen him in a few weeks. He said he noticed a lot of improvement.
So, I'm asking for more prayers. Please pray that the insurance company lets him stay there longer. He has a long road. He needs months of in-patient therapy. I'm terrified the insurance will stop and make him leave the facility. These places are only short term places. Typically they say that patients stay about 3-4 weeks. He will be there 3 weeks on Tuesday. he has great insurance but that doesn't mean they won't stop paying for the care. Hospital based programs are expensive. Nursing home based places are less expensive.
Going to another facility isn't the end of the world, but he's just getting to remember his therapists names and getting used to his schedule of therapy. I think it's disruptive to move him again.
Today I asked the doc to tell the therapists to shower him. He wasn't ambulatory enough yet to do so, so they were washing him but there's nothing like a shower.
They took him outside yesterday and the doc said he did well. He is confused but at least he now knows he's in a hospital.
His memory is getting better slowly. I read that it is the slowest of everything to come back. He is able to shave himself, put his shirt on and other occupational things. Physical therapy is slower since he has one leg. He can't be fitted for a prosthesis yet since he has a sore on the back of the stump.
He is a changed man. He mentioned to his friend on the phone that this is the best thing that happened to him. I guess he feels he can take a rest and get the help he needs.

I hope he continues to improve and get all the help he needs and deserves. It's great to hear his progress. I'll keep him in my prayers.

my cousin went there last night and did a little of the memory timeline with him. They talked. He has been someone I can count on.
His sister is going with me on Tuesday to look at other rehab places.
DH called my nephew today to ask him about the apartment and to see how many boxes we need to store.
My mom spent a day and a half trying to get medicaid to send us an application. They are sending it. I hope I get it soon.
My parents want to help more but it's hard from AZ. They are coming in on June 16. I need them..I really do.
