Spinoff to Christenings...

At what age do you have them? I am due on 10/14 and was thinking that I would have it around the 3 month mark. DH wants to wait until the weather is nicer - April or May...the baby would be like 6 or 7 months old by then. Is that too old, or is it ok?

I think its about what you like..
I am due 12/23 so I am having the Christening in Feb. I am old school Ginzo also so I know my parents would bug if I waited any longer!

no way..my dd just had hers on may 20th..she was over 10 months..i dont think that is too old..at first i did..then when i was there i was like this is fine..to be honest. my dd was so tough to handle in the beginning..i couldnt even think of doing anything but getting by..lol..

We won't be having our DD's christening until the spring, so she'll be 7 or 8 months old.

I originally wanted to do it earlier, but her Godmother is pg and due in December. She lives in TX and she won't be able to fly up here until then...But the more I think about it, the more I am comfortable with the idea, and I don't think it's too old...

I really think any age is fine now. I want to have it in Sept-early Oct before the holidays get here and everyone's schedules become very hectic. DS will be a little over 3 months by then.

I had my son's at five months. My sister's baby was born three weeks before me so I had to wait until she had hers and then we had to wait for my family to finish all their summer vacations. We had it in Sept. I don't think it is too old.

I am due Oct. 24th and am thinking the 3 month mark too, after the holidays (end of Jan). Personally I think 6-7 months is too old to wait. My cousin waited till June (she had her in Oct) and the baby was up and running around by then.

eta - plus our families are old-fashioned Catholic too and they wouldn't like if we waited too long.

I was about to post this same question! I am due November 3, which means I won't be having anything before January. I would really rather wait for nicer weather but that would mean at least March/April and the baby would be 4/5 months old.

This question always makes me laugh because I was 4 years old when I was christened! I actually REMEMBER it!

I think if you wanted to wait until the warmer months it would be fine -- certainly not too old.

I think it is more of a tradition thing than anything else. I was only a month old when I was baptised so I guess that is why 4 or 5 months seems too long.

My daughter was 5 months and my god daughter was 11 months.

We are having DS's in a couple of weeks and he will be about 2 1/2 months.

My family is super Catholic and weird about christenings - most babies in my family were baptized in the hospital before they even went home, and then later at the Christening too.

I'm due 11/17 and I think we'll do it in January, when it's ok for the baby to leave the house and I've had time to heal.

We waited longer than I wanted to for weather reasons too. Lily was born November 10 and her christening was March 25. She was 4 and a half months old. We had family flying to Chicago from all over the place so we didn't want to risk a blizzard.

I had James' at 5 1/2 months. I've been to Christenings where the babies are 2 months old, 3 months old, basically any age.

i have no clue when we will christen our little one but I would guess within only a couple of months - my little brother was somewhere around nine months at his christening and that was fine too

In the old days they wouldn't take baby out until they were christened & they tried to do it as soon as possible. Now I know the church pushes to do it sooner rather than later.

But we'll probably do ours around the 3-4 month mark.
