4 hours hysterical/went to E.R today

Today I saw blood on my underwear and I freaked out. I was leaving work for lunch and as I was walking to my car I felt a gush I thought it was discharge and I did say to myself that was a lot. I'm driving along didn't think nothing of it. I stopped at Home Depot bought a few things and went home to eat. As soon as I got in the house I went straight to the bathroom to pee and I saw a significant amount of dark brown blood on my underwear. I was hysterical. I called my mom to get me to go to the ER called my doctor to tell them I was going.

I had a sono and they said that baby was fine but they noticed that my placenta was low (?) they asked if I had sex this morning or lifted anything heavey and I said no. My doctor was there and visited me after the sono. She was actually there to deliver a baby. She checked me internally and everything and she pretty much said to stay home for the week and relax. That this will happen because of how my placenta is which is low and to watch it. She wants to see me in a week. We want this to dry up in the meantime. I will still have some spotting and she said it will take a couple of days to dry up (hopefully) this is what we want.

I had no cramping at all just that one gush at 12pm. When she checked me internally it was still brownish old looking blood. There's really nothing else to be done. I'll be entering my 18th week tomorrow. I feel like I'm back to square 1, week one of feeling scared to death. Mom and husband are telling me to not lift a finger. I called in for the rest of the week for work. I'm just home now with a headache and being paranoid everytime I get up or go to the bathroom.

Has anyone had any bleeding middle pregnancy? Has anyone heard of low lying placenta and the bleeding it can cause?

I'm so sad. I want it to be 9 months already

Don't have any experience, but definitely take it easy and rest, rest, rest!!!

It should be reassuring that your Dr. said everything looks ok

I've read a few posts about this & many times the placenta re-positions itself eventually. try doing a search on here & just keep telling yourself that the baby is doing good.

i'm sorry this happened to you but stay calm. i'm sure it will be OK as long as you follow doctor orders - take it easy, keep yourself on bedrest. if you search on here maybe under "placenta" etc. you'll see this has happened to some others too. keep us posted

I haven't experienced this myself (I'm only 12 wks), but I just wanted to say I am very sorry this happened.

I hope you get the rest you need, and this turns out to be nothing.

Take care of yourself, and definitely do not do too much!

There are a lot of ladies on here that have/had a low lying placenta...I dont but my doctor explained that in most cases as the uterus expands it "pulls" the placenta up and out of the way of the cervix.

Although I didnt bleed, I did have a low lying placenta. The Dr just monitored me and as time went on and as I got bigger, the placenta moved up.

I bled twice, once at like 14 weeks I think (i dont remember exactly) and again at 16 weeks. The second time I got up in the middle of the night and passed a huge red blood clot, like really large (sorry TMI)!...I honestly thought it was part of the baby or something...it was probably the size of a half of a dollar bill...long and flat... sorry, GROSS i know...and I was bleeding for a few days after that. I was hysterical but my Dr. saw me first thing the next morning (not to mention my FIL is an obgyn so I was on the phone w/him at 6am) and they both said dont worry, its very common and said it was my placenta (we knew already that I had marginal previa/low lying from previous ultrasounds) so he wasnt concerned at all. That was my last bout of bleeding but what a scare. I go tomorrow to see if the placenta moved upward ...I'll be 23 weeks on Sat. and the high risk Dr. seemed to think it would be higher/out of the way by now.

This is somewhat common and usually it resolves itself. Def. take it easy though-no chores or anything.

My best friend had this and was put on bedrest for a week and then "pelvic bedrest" for a month, meaning no sex, lifting, carrying, pulling, etc. She was about 16 weeks when it started and her placenta had moved up by 21 weeks.

I had a low lying placenta, or marginal placenta previa, earlier in my pregnancy. As the baby grew, the placenta moved up with the baby. My doctor did have me on restricted activity for a while though. I wouldn't worry too much. Just take it easy and rest. If in doubt about anything, call your doctor.

I had that brown spotting through out my entire two pregnancies and I had two healthy babies. Both were caused by low lying placentas and I really didn't have any restrictions.

The same thing happened to me two weeks ago and I just stopped spotting.

I went to the ER and my doctor still hasn't seen me... I have my regular appt on Thursday and an appt with a high risk doc on Friday along with my Level II.

Thanks for the hugs and prayers guys. I'm a little more relaxed at this point.

I'm on the couch resting & watching tv. I'll be doing this pretty much the rest of the week until my follow up appt with the Dr. this coming Tuesday. I'll keep all of you posted.

I'm wearing a pad now because the spotting is still there. I guess it will take some time to clear up.

Tine73 we're both due in October. I'm due the 24th. Boy what a scary experience. I did a lot of searching on here and on the web about low lying placenta. I'm really confident everything will be alright. Just curious for those who have bled like you Tine73 did you do any heavy lifting or anything to cause it? I'm still trying to think about things I did the past few days.

Rest up and try to relax. My high risk Dr told me that low lying placenta is pretty common and usually corrects itself.
I had placenta previa and it moved itself out of the way.

TMI here but just to keep you posted & for those who might have had a smiliar experience.

I'm still wearing a pad for the spotting. It never really touches the pad the only time I see the spotting is when I wipe. The spotting is really dark brown and dry looking. About an hour ago I just passed a clot the size of quarter and as thick as one too. It was so dark it almost looked black in color. I was with my mom and she seems to think even though I have a low lying placenta that it's old blood that's coming out of the cervix that needs to come out. She also thinks it could have been an old cyst that bursted and it's coming out.

I didn't get hysterical when this happened. I'm learning so much on here about all the possibilites of why bleeding occurs during pregnancy. Thanks again for the support.
