For those that had the 3 hr glucose test ? for you

What did the test entail? I know you have to drink the sugar drink again but how many times do they take your blood in the three hours and do all three results count? Just trying to get an idea of how painful this will be, thanks in advance

you get blood taken pre-drink..then every hour after you finish the drink for a total of 4 times

all of the results count, that is what they look at to see how your body processes the glucose

Honestly, the test is more boring than painful! You have to sit there for the three hours....and that is the worst part of it!

ITA! It wasn't painful, it was just more boring than I could possibly explain. I say bring a portable dvd player if you have one. If not, a pillow The lab I went to offered me an empty room with a table to lay down on. I didn't need it, but it was nice to know it was an option.

what lab was that?? i would probably jump at the chance!
for the 1 hr i asked if i could go outside to just get some fresh air and they wouldnt let me!!! i dont know how im possibly going to be able to sit there for 3 hours...soooo boring!

It is extremely long and boring. Take a friend if you can to keep you company and lots to read!!!

You get 4 needles. One before drinking and then 1 on each hour. For me the 1st hour was the worst because the drink they gave me was warm - the refridge wasn't working well and it made me gag and I thought I wasn't going to hold it down - after about a half hour I felt better. I have taken the 3 and a 2 hour with my last pregnancy and it wasn't that bad - I think it was the too much sugar in a warm drink that did me in.

Oh I went to Labco on Wantagh Ave and they too offered me a place to lay down - I didn't take them up on it but nice option for those interested.

My experience was similar to what everyone else said. I also want to add that the lab tech used very small needles, so the test didn't hurt. Also, my sugar drink was ice cold, which helped.

Yes -- I don't think any of the labs let you leave. Bring a good book or some trashy magazines to keep you occupied!

Mine was the same as everyone else is saying, but I took my test in a hospital and I didn't have to stay in the lab, I was able to leave, so it wasn't too bad.

quest in babylon said I couldnt leave but I was so bored and the place was over crowded so I went down the road to the stores and came back to get the blood. they never knew.
