My MIL just told me . . .

. . . that all her kids were 3 weeks late and weighed over 9lbs at birth!!!

Why did I not ask DH these things before I agreed to have his baby????? I don't want to be pregnant for 43 weeks and I am NOT excited about pushing out a 9 lb baby !!!

Does anyone know if there is a connection between your DH's gestation and your baby's? My mom had normal sized babies and we were all born within days of thier due dates.

I don't think there is a corrolation. DH's mom had medium sized babies like 7 and 8 pounds, my mom had 8 and 9 pounders and DS was 9lbs 10 ozsb.

Not to worry! Doctors generally don't let you go past 2 weeks late these days!!
I'm worried because all FOUR of my mother's children were late - 1,2,3,and FOUR weeks!!!! I hope it's not genetic!

Both DH and his brother were over 10 pounds.

My nephew's on DH's side were almost 10 pounds each.

They all had me scared I was going to have a 10 pounder.

Logan was 8 pounds 9 ounces.

So he was big, but not as big as everyone said he would be.

My SIL who is a PA says that your baby's size is correlated to DH's mother's babies. I am sorry to tell you that - good for me since all 6 of us were 8.5+ and all 6 of DH's family were 7-7.5. At 38+ weeks, OB is measuring my baby at 6lb8oz. and expects me to go to about 705 lbs. which would make this true.

However, your OB probably will not let you go past 2 weeks as the baby usually starts to lose weight at that point and is not getting the nourishment needed anymore.

Over 9 pounds? YIKES.

Well - Neil and his 2 brothers were all early. Neil was 2 weeks early and weighed something like 6 pounds, 9 ounces.

I was 3 weeks late and weighed 8.1 ounces. My sister was maybe a week late and was just under 9 pounds.

I went into labor 2 weeks early and my baby was 7.7

so the early part seemed to favor Neil's side of the family - but the big baby favored my history.

My DH was over 10lbs, my BIL over 9.

My daughter was 7lbs 8oz and my son was 8lbs 1oz

I read that you're babies weight is the average of your birth weight and Dh's birthweight.

I was 8lbs 6oz and DH was 6 lbs and change, my DD was born 7lbs 2oz's.

Every pg is different, I don't buy into any of that nonsense. You will go when your baby and body are ready

Both of us had the same weights on both sides of our family, so I can't tell you which side it comes from.

But I thought my ped once said that it's not a genetic thing - it's a placenta thing. And that would make me think that it comes from the mother.
