Update- I had the D & C today

Has anyone had one? Do they hurt? Do you have to stay in the hospital for any period of time?

I'm sorry for your loss.

I've never had one but from friends I know it was a few hours in the hospital and you go home.

Also it's D&C, if you want to do a board search for it.

I had one years ago due to a retained placenta. (14 years ago to be exact) At the time they were done as a outpatient procedure and under general anestetia..They do a vacuum extraction so there isnt a risk of damaging the uterus. The only part I found particularly "unpleasant" was the general anestetia (sp?) I remember the doctor telling me that I was going to go out very quickly and come back very quickly...apparently it was a certain type and after words I felt really wired up and restless.

I had one back in November. They perform them as outpatient surgery - so you are in and out the same day. The procedure itself isn't painful, but 2 days after you will feel sore and spot for a while.

I am so sorry for your loss....

I had one back in September and it was outpatient surgery in the hospital, under anesthesia....

I did not have any pain aftewards, other than normal period like cramps...

I had one for a miscarriage. If I had to do it over again, I would m/c naturally without the intervention. The procedure wasn't so bad, recovery took some time - but my uterus took a very long time to get "healthy" again...

I am so sorry to hear about your m/c.

I had to have one because I was going on vacation and couldn't wait for a m/c to happen naturally.

I was one of the few that I have heard of who had it while awake. My doc gave me a very light sedative to take the edge off, but it didn't help with the pain.

I won't lie, it was the worst pain I have experienced thus far and I would recommend doing it under anesthesia.

The felling afterward was cramp-like pain, not so bad.

thank you for the information. I am supposed to be going to MD on Thursday night so I would REALLY like to get this over with. Do you think that they will schedule it for the same day or maybe the next day?

Again, sorry for your loss. For may first one my doc scheduled it for two days after the hb was gone. For my second one, it took a week before I could get scheduled. Very frustrating. Think it depends on doc and hospital, but I am pretty sure that no matter what you will need preliminary testing the day before the procedure.

I had no difficulty with recovery from the procedure...no major symptoms, but did bleed for 3 wks with each.

I am sorry for your loss. I had a D&C done 2 years ago. It is an outpatient procedure. After the surgery I felt sore and spotted for about 3 days. I felt physically fine the next day. I had the procedure on Mon and I was at work on that Wed. I just had mild cramps like AF.

Actually when I went to the hospital on Saturday the Dr. there said that there was no heart beat so We'll see today. Part of me is saying that when I see MY regular dr, he will say "What are they talking about there is a heart beat" But I know that is not possible just wishful thinking.

I think she may have been talking about heavy bleeding?

I never truly miscarried, so I was scheduled for the very next morning. He would have done it right then and there, but the office was packed.....

Again, I was leaving for vacatin 2 days later so it may have been rushed.

Im confused, i always thought your body would bleed....why would u wait till there is not HB, isnt there obviously no HB if you miscarry????

Just wondering, why did u go to the hospital if you didnt bleed, did u just "Not feel right"? How did u know what was happening??? Sory again for your loss

Shelly I was bleeding, something like the beginning of a period. So thats why I went and then when I FINALLY got the sonogram there was no heartbeat

I am so sorry for your loss. My sister had 3 MC and she had 2 D and C's. She was scared to MC naturally, and did not want to wait a week for the procedure, so she went to the ER and they did it that night. She was okay afterwards she told me she had light cramps and some bleeding. She took it easy for a few days and then was okay physically. It was a same day procedure,

Oh, im sorry...i thought u said there was no bleeding so i wondered why you went...i know exactlt how you feel, but you are rioght, God does not give you more than you can handle....

I went this morning for the D&C and it went ok. Everyone was very nice and funny. I wasnt prepared for the HOT tingling that I was going to feel in the lower regions. The next thing I know I was KNOCKED out. I woke up in the recovery area, came home and slept most of the day. I am spotting a little and no cramping thank god. I will find out in a month what happened to the baby. So I wait 6 - 8 weeks for AF to show and then we are free to try again. I will probably wait till after the summer. I always try to avoid late april/early May babies (Taurus) I have alot in my family and they give EVERYONE a run for their money.
