Is anyone not taking Lamaze?
MY obgyn said that a lot of her patients don't take the classes...I'm not sure what do - take them or no?

I didn't take it. My doc said it wasn't necessary since he would instruct me on what to do.
Turned out I had a c-section and ended up never needing it.

I honestly just don't want to be bothered with it. I think I might just take the child preparation class offered at the hospital.

Which DVD did you get at the library? We had to miss the class about breathing techniques, but I definitely want to TRY breathing techniques to get through as much labor as possible (before the epi) as I've heard/read that the epi can slow things down.
For years, my mother has SWORN lamaze worked for her (delivered 2 of us with no drugs).

I am not taking Lamaze and bought the same DVD - Laugh and Learn. DH and I watched the second section last night and I have to say I really like it. The woman who runs it is very annoying but I like the fact that it's just the two of us and we can watch it at our own pace.
Alot of moms have told me that it's not necessary. This video is good though and def. taught me some things I did not know.

I was going to with my first, but he was born a week before our first class. Honestly, I didnt need it. Instinct takes over, and the nurses are so wonderful - they coach you anway.

We didn't take it either - We got the Laugh and Learn video and it was fine - the woman is a bit annoying but she grows on you after a while. It is also nice as it is broken down to sections all about 35-55 mins in length so you can watch it at your own pace and your own time and not try to cram it into one or two days.

I found it a waste...although all my kids were natural I found that I did better handling the pain my own way...HOWEVER, I did find the techniques useful later on when dealing with say and earache or a headache...

If you get the laugh and learn video she does a good job at covering all the topics that are covered in a regular lamaze class. I think that should really be sufficient. The instructor on the video has taught lamaze at NY Presb. for a number of years. It covers what to looks for to know you are in labor, what actual labor is like, breathing techniques, pushing, drugs, vacuum, forceps, c-section info, recovery etc. I thought it was really thorough.
