Spinoff to Beta #'s
Anyone's doctor not tell them any numbers at all? I would love to know more about what the numbers represent (just for my personal knowledge). When would/do they tell you your numbers? Every doctor visit? TIA

I only got my Betas when the pg was confirmed and the numbers from 2 days before. This was through IVF so it was early on.
The first time I was pg (naturally, and miscarried) I was never told my betas nor did I ask about them - shoot I didn't even know about them.

I did my own research. My Dr. at the time (I later switched b/c they were awful) tried to tell me that my beta #'s were low (at that point I requested the actual #'s) and that I was going to miscarry, so I went online and did extensive research and found that they were totally wrong. Anyway, sometimes the actual numbers part can just make you more paranoid about how things are going....I'm not sure I want to know the next time around.

You will get your hcg numbers if you have a history of miscarriage, bleeding in the first trimester, or had assisted reproduction. Be happy if you don't need them.

no, they only told me at the 1st and 2nd visit (two days later to make sure it doubled)...that was it.

My doctor's office said they did not test for this unless there was a previous problem. By the time of my first visit (8 wks) he said the sono was more accurate than the blood work at that point re: whether the pg was viable or not.

I was told my betas during my first pregnancy since they thought there was a problem...there was, i ended up miscarrying, but with this pregnancy, I did not have any beta done.

i actually never had a blood pregnancy test. i called my OB with the news of a positive POAS test, expecting them to have me come in for a couple of serial betas to confirm. instead they said congrats, see you at 8 weeks. got my 8 week ultrasound to confirm and date the pregnancy, and that was it.

Also, the hcg levels decline after the first trimester so you wouldn't be tested after that
