Gastroskisis (SP?)
Does anyone know more about this? My husbands nephew was born with it. He was born in Nov. and they dr's told my SIL that this frequently occurs around that time of the year (Thanksgiving) although they don't know why. He is fine now but I was wondering if anyone knew if this is hereditary or just a fluke. I'm due around Thanksgiving and I'm wondering if this is something I should worry about.
FYI: Gastroskisis is when a baby is born with it's intestines outside of the stomach.

What? I am due in November. I have NEVER heard of this or heard any correlation to birth defects and being born at that time of year???????

My best friends baby had this - she was born 6 weeks early in Dec. They knew from her 20 week songram that the baby had this. She spend about 3 months in the NICU and needed a couple of surgeries, but is doing GREAT now!

Yes my husbands nephew only spent 2 weeks in the NICU then he came home. He is now 12 and as healthy as can be. However, I wonder if it is true that women due around Thanksgiving are at greater risk to have a baby with gastroskisis.

I have never heard of it happening to women who give birth during a certain time of the year. I have read about this in the past and I don't think there is a correlation.

This post is totally freaking me out, may be the hormones, but i am searching teh internet and cannot find anything that says that babies born around Thanksgiving have a higher rate of this....Do you know where you heard this?

I didn't mean to freak you out....I was born around thanksgiving and came out fine....I was just curious as to if anyone else has heard of this.
