Bed bath and beyond, linens and things, a plant from a florist, make a gift basket with all household cleaning supplies.

I got a bonsai tree once as a housewarming gift and I loved it!
also:
any plant really
candles
williams sonoma has nice stuff (cookbooks, trendy kitchen gadgets)

You can always get a candle and tie a gift certificate to it to one of those store to it so they can pick out their own stuff.

I was going to second the wine idea. We tend to give nice bottles as housewarming gifts so that people can restock their bar.

I've done this a few times - go to Marshalls, get a nice basket, and put in some fun olive oils, jams, cookies, candies, etc. Maybe a few dish towels. Then wrap it all up with a nice bow!!
