Advice needed from BTDT moms on moving DD to her NEW room

my best friend didn't have to move her kids, only transitioned with new furniture which wasn't an issue for her.

She's getting a new room painted a different color as well as a new crib with new bedding.

Is this going to be difficult?

Re: Advice needed from BTDT moms on moving DD to her NEW room

Katherine switched to her new room the first week of April which would leave about a month before the new baby was born. Her room was all new--new color, new furniture. However, I did buy her a new crib (different color though) and brought her old sheet and bumper in.

Let me tell you...she adjusted great!! She went into that room and never looked back. Two other tips...I played with her in the new room all week before we actually had her sleep in there. Also, I closed the door to the nursery, so she couldn't just walk in there. The baby won't be using that room for a couple of months, so I'm hoping by that time her old room will be a faint memory, if one at all.

Good luck and do it ASAP!

We didn't have an issue with transitioning to another room.

We told him he was getting a big boy bed & a new room. He was fine with it. I think it was easier since he was never a big fan of the crib.

We did wait 2 weeks before putting his sister in the crib so he didn't feel displaced.

We had no problems. She even slept better in the new room. We did it about 2 months before Andy was born so she wouldn't feel like she was being kicked out of her room by him.

If at all possible, I would transfer her prior to the new baby's arrival and talk up her new big girl room. Hopefully, she will believe the room is something special for her before the new baby arrives.

No reason to switch the bedding right away -- let her have the bedding from her old room for a while. When we moved the pediatrician suggested not washing the sheets that week so that the familiar smell would come with her -- that might help in a newly painted room with all sorts of odd smells to her. Put the new bedding in once she seems at home in the room.

I think your 2 will be very closei n age like mine are. We moved DD into her new room (new color, new furniture, new crib etc) when she was almost 1. She definitely had a few rough nights of waking up in the middle of the night crying. We just went in and rocked her and she was back to her great sleeping ways within a week. My DS was born 2 months later.

Like most others have said, I would do it SOON. You want her to get used to her room and not think she being displaced by the new baby.
