Did u have an ultrascreen

at this pt my dr said nothing about it, she said my next sono is at 20 weeks? Does every doctor do it?

I don't know if every doctor does it, but we were asked at our 8 week appt if we wanted to do it at 12 weeks. We went for it just to have the pictures. No matter what, we never would've opted for an amnio.

It depends on how old you are and if you want to you dont have to though. How many weeks are you?
It is supposed to be done between I think your 12-13 weeks

we did it because our insurance covered it and we wanted the pictures if it weren't available we would have just gotten the blood test at 16 weeks for downs syndrome, etc.

It is optional I guess but it is done somewhere in between 11 - 13 weeks.

I had one. Just talk to your doctor about it, b/c it has a very high false positive rate.

I actually brought it up to my doctor. I alreay have a child with Down Syndrome and wanted to start with the Ultrascreen before starting more invasive testing. My DH and I were happy with the Ultrascreen and AFP Quad Screen Results as well as some other sonogram findings and chose not to have an amnio.

My dr. said he just started sending all of his patients for an ultrascreen. If you are concerned you should ask your dr. for one.

It's usually done at 12 wks. I did not do it because I knew I would have an amnio.

My doc calls it 1st trimester screening, not ultrascreen
BUt I opted out both times for personal reasons.

1st trimester screening, Level I ultrasound are all done between weeks 11-13, its like a regular sonogram its just that the tech takes certain measurments and looks out for certain parts of fetal development.

Level II ultrascreen, sonogram, 2nd trimester screening is usually performed between weeks 18-22. The same procedure takes place as in Level I but it is more advanced and requires additional blood testing to rule out any fetal abnormalities.

Normal pregnancies (meaning with no complications) usually require 3-4 sonograms (ultrascreens etc).

If you are having an amnio, you have no reason to do an ultrascreen. If not, you should be offered ultrascreen. I made 2 attempts at ultrascreen and they could not get a good measurement of the baby in proper position.

I had mine today!

All went well, but my doctor as well didn't ever mention it. I read about it in my book and asked him why he didn't mention it. He said it is not a routine test that he prescribes and because of my age and lack of history, I am not at risk. DH wanted it so we went.

Some doctors do it for everyone, some ask if you want it, and others only mention it if you are at risk.

I was a little upset at first, but now I feel better.

i did not. in fact I only got two sonograms, one at 10 wks and one at 20. but i'm not upset about it. just the way my plan worked. if other test would have indicated a problem then i would have had more sonograms and/or ultrascreens.

Yes, with both pregnancies, my doctors office does it routinely, so I guess if you don't say otherwise, you will automatically get this sono/bloodwork done.
