Is this tacky?

Funny how I hated all the "is this tacky" questions on LIW. People would say that if you have to ask, then it's tacky.

Anyway, I will probably not have a baby shower. If I have a party for the baby naming, is it tacky to include registry information on the invitation? The baby naming parties are common for Jewish people, so having such a party is not considered to be tacky. However, the only friend of mine who had one did not include registry information, but then I easily found the resgistry online.

Re: Is this tacky?

I too had this same question. My family is not giving me a shower because we are jewish. Since we are having a boy, we are having a bris and no baby naming party. I told my parents and inlaws we registered but I have no idea if it will be used. Since we are only sending out birth announcements we are not including registry info.

As for your question, if you are hosting the baby naming party, then I am not sure I would include the registry info with the invite. I would still register and definately let your immediate family/friends know so they can spread the word. HTH. Chat Icon

Re: Is this tacky?

Well I wouldn't include it for a Chistening and I *think* it is more or less the same thing. But people find out where you are registered -- make it known to family members and they will tell others, or people will automatically assume and look for you on BRU or BBB. At least that's what I would do... I wouldn't include it on the invite, but I am not Jewish so I am not sure how it works.

My friend did not put it on the invitation.

I would just let your mom or someone else spread the info by word of mouth. I'm not Jewish, but based on how you describe it (and what I know otherwise) it doesn't seem appropriate to include regisrty information at a baby naming.

Re: Is this tacky?

Thanks!!!! I probably won't include the information, as people can find it online or just ask! So, if they wil find it anyway, there is no reason for me and DH to appear tacky, right? But telling the family does not help a lot because most people invited will be friends. My parents only have contact with about 5 relatives and their social circle is small. My in laws will spread to word to their people, though.

This may all be moot when we find out the sex. If it is a boy, we'll have the bris and invite people by word of mouth.

I am getting ahead of myself with respect to everything!!!
