I wouldnt change the name....especially if your using the american version and they are using the italian version. I am sure the family is aware that you already have a named picked out and will announce it once the baby is born. I cant see how anyone will think you copied.

ETA: my girlfriend named her son Sebastian and her cousin named her son Sebastiano. They just decided on 2 differet nick names~

I would still use it. Dh's cousins son is named Dominick and my DS is Dominic. No hard feeling between anybody.

Stick with the name you love.

We're a bit worried about the same thing as we have quite a few friends are expecting before we are, but we will stick with the name we love if anyone else grabs it. We aren't announcing her name until she is born.

We had a similar issue, we always wanted Kathryn Elizabeth for our daughter, my aunt had a baby girl about 18 months ago and named her Kaitlyn Elizabeth (i think i told her i liked the name, but don't remember)

We have changed our possible daughter's name because of this since the children would be so close in age and will see each other all the time

My sister had the same problem. She wanted to use Nicholas and her DH cousin waned the same this. They both used the name and she calls her son Nicholas and her nephew Nick. It all worked out and they are happy. They are together all the time.

keep your name. Do whatever will make you happy. This is your child, you'll regret it if you change the name.
