Anyone finding little "things" in their new home...

This weekend we did a LOT of work in our home. Tons of new fixtures, fixing the electricity...you name it.

While doing this we tour up a lot of plywood in the attic to get access to the wires, etc. We kept finding odd pictures, books, even some creepy looking teddy bear under the boards.

We even took a wall down in the kitchen and found a new years eve card from 1986 and some school bulletin from 1981.

We're still hoping to find some treasure of some sorts....money...besides the penny we found...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Anyone find anything while doing repairs, demo?

Sadly no, but we haven't ventured into the attic.

The outside, though, we found tons of crap, prob just dog toys that had bitten the dust though.

I never found anything in my house. Though, if anyone ever takes down the walls in my family room, they will find our names and my son's name (the little guy wasn't born yet), on the studs (when the walls were down before our remodel). We also included the date and a picture drawn by my son. So cute!!

My parents found a huge jug of pennies in their crawlspace in Queens when they first moved there in 1975. Cool!

Not so much inside but outside, that was another story. When we started to rake out the side of our house, we found pieces of carpet, posters, clothings, walkman, shoes...It was disgusting!!! Chat Icon

When we were raking we found the head of a hammer in the lawn. We found comforters in the loft of the garage. I don't even know what's in the shed because it's so packed with crap.

When taking out the ceiling in the kitchen to run pipes for our new washer and dryer, the contractor found a check from 1966 from the the original owners of the house and also a driving map from the 60's

When we redid the kitchen, we found a picture of the owners wife eating some kind of crab/crawfish. but it looked not cooked, and she had a creepy look on her face.

Re: Anyone finding little "things" in their new home...

We found a bunch of pictures in the electric box.
They were of the previous owners putting up the stone wall for the fireplace.
There's also lots of writing in a crawl space (like whoever was here, this one loves that one etc.).

We found a bundle of what looked like Russian papers in our attic. Apparently some owners in the past were circus performers (no kidding) so we wonder if they were from them.

We also found old whiskey, milk and cream bottles when digging in our yard.

We found some old tree trunks and crap that the previous owners buried instead of getting rid of..Chat Icon

ALso, we know the previous owners (family friends) and they told us not to dig on a certain side of the yard which is where they buried some of their cats that had passed away.... Their graves were marked with stones so DH stayed away.Chat Icon

Re: Anyone finding little "things" in their new home...

We bought our house from the 4 kids who inherited the house after their parents passed away.
We've heard from neighbors that right before they moved out, all of the kids were frantically searching the house for stuff their father "hid" somewhere in the house....and they never found it! So there could be some good stuff in this house....we just have no idea where it might be!

Re: Anyone finding little "things" in their new home...

My parents were the original owners..... they both have passed away.... Chat Icon I have found a lot of stuff my parents had gotten for me and my sister for when we have kids- a found 2 mother charm necklaces, brand new in boxes with our names on it, some money in my Dad's tie, and Chanukkah presents my dad had for me, and a few peices of jewelry my dad had put aside for me that were my Mom's, when I found that I just stopped what I was doing and started to cry hysterically. It is so sad. I am still emptying out lot of this house, while living here, so I do not know what else I will find. When I do throw out something I feel bad and say out loud how sorry I am do to this, but it is my time to enoy this house.... so sad..... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone finding little "things" in their new home...

We haven't found anything yet but then again we haven't really ventured into the attic.

We found a plan for a possible pool in the garage on the wall.
