Re: Does anyone have any job fair tips?

I printed about 30 resumes, some highlighting my management skils, some highlighting my education experience. If you want the truth I really want to go for my MFA, but work for a few years to save $$ for it. None of these jobs really truly interest me, and I'm a theatre major, so it's hard. Do I just go up and introduce myself?

Do I say "Hi, I'm Mary Moon. I'll be graduating in may..."

"Hi my name is mary moon, I'm a senior theatre major and through my work in the theatre I've gained a lot of management experience. I'm very interested in your managemeent trainee program."

I have NO idea what to do. I'm flipping out and considering not going...which would be usch a waste of resume paper

How so?

A lot of the companies represented at the career fair are also companies who are hiring through the on campus recruiting program I joined. I just don't know what to say to these people. I wish i could just drop my resume and leave..LOL

Re: Does anyone have any job fair tips?

Forgive me, I have no idea what a MFA is. Go in there with full confidence. I would leave the theatre thing out. I would think that would sound like a time consuming hobby to an employer.

I watch college kids get interviewed at my job all the time. Make yourself comfortable, they will pick up on your nerves and it will make it harder to have a smooth interview. Try and wear your hair back, when they speak to you give eye contact, and nod your head every now and then.

Good luck!!!

Re: Does anyone have any job fair tips?

Well Theatre is my major, I can't really leave it out, and I have a lot of managerial experience from directing. I actually just added it to my resume for the first time and the career center told me I marketed myself as a management candidate, which is good.

Are these actual interviews that happen at the job fair?

Can anyone tell me what happens and what you do when you approach teh booths?

I had to miss the workshop they had about how to work the career fair

Re: Does anyone have any job fair tips?

Well, at my college fairs it was a large table per company. Often they had freebies, so some people just run around and grab free tshirts/bags, etc. Say there's a table for Chase. You walk up to the rep, give your resume. He'll say hi, read it, and say "why chase? what types of positions are you interested in?" now management is too general--you can be in management in any area. He may say, "Sales, marketing, trading, HR, etc.?" You have to know what area and why, and be able to tell him why you know you would be good at sales and want it as a career. They'll then write on the top of your resume what types of positions you want, then say they will contact you for an interview if they are interested.

ETA: They should have a listing of what companies will be there. Research in advance which ones you would want, and be able to tell them why you want that specific company. A fair without doing prep work, just walking around handing in resumes won't help you. They want to know you want them specifically. As a theatre major, you have the added obstacle of explaining why theatre if you want to work in business. Have you taken many business electives, worked for companies during summers, etc.? Be prepared to talk about experiences outside of theatre.
