Size of mother...

Does the size of the mother have anything to do with whether she is going to deliver early (nothing based on the size of the baby). My SIL's doc said that because she is small, she will prob go early. I have never heard this before.

No I never heard that??? I know that when mommies are of small body frame they have a harder time with labor ,,,but don't quote me it's all from hearing my petite friends birth stories. Chat Icon

I have a smaller frame(only 5'2) and my doctor expects me to go past my due date.

I have a small frame also, I am 5'2 and was a week late with nothing happening. They only did a c-sect because I am small and the baby would not have fit.

Unless it's an issue with the uterus being too small, I would say it doesn't matter.

I have a friend that has a heart-shaped uterus (not sure exactly what the means other than the obvious). She went at 27 weeks.

Never heard of this...aside from the fact that smaller women tend to have smaller pelvises that can lead to difficulties during labor...

I am not small..Im over 5'7" with a medium build..BUT Im short waisted and my doctor feels that this part of my problem with carrying to term...There is just no where for that baby to go.

Re: Size of mother...

Never heard this from a doctor but I do know that all of my friends and relatives that are small - not just short but under 5'2 and a size zero or smaller have all gone very early and had to have a c-section. Not sure if this is a coincidence or what but I awlays figured it was their size.

I can't imagine that is true at all! I know plenty of very, very petite woman who went on time or late.

Not at all. It depends on your actual frame and pelvis not your heigth.
