When did your baby start smiling?

I know people always say when a newborn smiles, its "gas" - BUT - I see a clear distinction between Cailen's "gassy" smile - where he does it all by himself, his eyes will scrunch up, and the smile is very big...

and then he has his "real" smile.... When I talk to him, tickle him, squeeze his cheeks and lips, and "beep" his nose, he will look right at me, his eyes will light up, and the corners of his lips will go up... He will also do this to DH when he plays with him - and we swore the other day we heard what sounded like a laugh....

Cailen has been doing this since he was a week old... and he does it more and more each week - now he does it several times a day (when he isn't crying or refusing to sleep, of course!)

Does anyone else remember their baby doing this at such a young age?

That's definitely a possibility. DD started to smile around then and at exactly 2 months, while we were in church at a baptism, she had her first belly laugh. It was the sweetest most unexpected thing ever. So it's def possible!

Kaitee was about 3 weeks old when she would smile when we were talking to her. Before that I wasn't sure if it was me or the gas that made her smile

Mikayla has been smiling since she was one week old as well....I knew it was not from gas but everyone says it was.....I love when she smiles.....She mostly does is when you say she is pretty or beautiful...she does it sometimes when I talk to her

Bella smiled for the first time at 5 weeks. She used to smile in her sleep from birth, but her fisrt awake smile was at 5 weeks.
