Carolyn Jill and her crazy birth Story)
Just wanted to post that I finally gave birth two days before my due date on Tuesday, September 6. Her name is Carolyn Jill and she is so beyond perfect! She weighed 7.5 ibs and I am totally in love.
The birth story was a little nuts but awesome at the same time. I was feeling nothing on Monday evening except heavy menstrual cramps that had been going for the whole weekend. On Sunday, I had lost my mucus plug, but I never experienced one contraction! I called my doctor and told him the cramps had been happening for the entire weekend and nothing had gotten stronger, nor went away. He told me to come to the hospital and he would check me. I was disappointed because I knew this was false labor- not one contraction- why would we go to the hospital? But I got checked at 8pm. The doctor was like- "You dont have contractions at all, you are not in labor but what is this? You have a leak in your amniotic fluid". He asked how long has this been happening? I told him I thought it was just normal discharge and did not bother reporting it. All of the books I had read said to look for a gush not a small amount. All of the books said you would know, but I did not.
Anyway, he said we have to induce you and began prepping for an emergency. They thought the baby might have sepsis and major infection if this had happened for a long time. I was 2cm and 80% effaced.
I asked for the epidural before the pitocin as I knew I would DIE with the pitocin first and they gave it to me at 11:00. I felt itchy but nothing else. They piggybacked it with benadryl and I fell asleep. Then they gave me the pitosin. I woke up at 5:00am and was 6cm dilated without feeling anything. At 8,9, and 10 cm I felt some painful contractions but it felt like bad cramps- nothing to go crazy over.
At 11:00 am, I was 9.8 cm dilated and 100% effaced and get this- stayed that way for another 2 hours- I was dying. AT 1:40pm, I started crying to my husband that I was having the most painful contraction that would not go away in my back- I contracted for 5 minutes of the most intense pain. My doctor came in and said it was the baby's head in my back. Start pushing immediately. I pushed like a champ for 20 minutes and at 2:05pm, my princess was born.
ANd here is the best part- my doctor was going to give me an epiiotomy at the end and I said - no dont- I will push better. One more push and out she came- no episotomy. All in all a great birth and I am sooooo in love.
Cant wait to hear other stories.
Lessons learned: 1. Do not read into the preggo books too much- I did and it was nothing like that. Almost killed me and the baby. 2. Ask for what you want immediately- I could not believe they gave me the epidural before labor. I slept through most of it.
And I begged for no episiotomy and got that too.
