Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
I have been having sciatica pain on and off – it starts completely out of nowhere and seems to be totally random. I assume that the baby is hitting something??
When it hits I can’t walk or drive – I have tried heat and laying on my side for 2-3 hours and it goes away – but it is keeping me from doing my activities like the GTG last night, important errands and it has happened at work which makes it hard to do the commute from NYC home.
What do you do for it?

Re: Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
The best would be to get a massage and some mild stretches.
Did you sleep in a different position? Wake up hurting?
It can come from either your low back or your but muscles (piriformis to be exact).
FM if you want more details.

Re: Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
This was a chronic problem for me before pregnancy and back surgery. If you bend your knees slightly facing forward and put your right ankle over your left knee (sort of like you are going to sit in a chair but not put your butt on the chair), you will feel the stretch in the piriformis. I've never tried doing it with a pregnant belly but it should work, just don't overstretch all at once. GL and hope you feel better!

Try acupuncture. I've been doing it for my carpal tunnel and it's been my savior.

Re: Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
I had this during my 2nd trimester, I actually wound up slipping a disc. I still get pain on and off throughout the day if I am on my feet too long. The best thing to do is try to lay down with your legs elevated when you are in bed or watching TV. I also used an ice pack, the heat didnt work for me. My orthopedist also recommended stretching off and on throughout the day and especially when you are in the shower. The warm water loosens up the muscles and stuff.

Re: Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
Thank you - I don't get it all the time - more like once or twice every week or two but I am afraid it will happen when I am at work in NYC and then how do I get home

Re: Can anyone help with Sciatic pain?
stretching, posture and ice.
your nerves are pinched because your body is holding up more weight in a much different way. Your muscles are not used to it, so stretching and building muscles gently by sitting properly will help. ice speeds up muscle contractions, so it is fast relief, albeit, a bit uncomfortable

Actually muscles are already contracting the nerve so you would use ice to "numb" it or as an anti-inflammatory not to contract the muscle.
