All State isn't renewing my policy

I received a letter from All Sate saying that they are not renewing my policy because of where I live and the structure of my house. So, I am now on the hunt for new homeowners' insurance. Has this happened to anyone else?

Re: All State isn't renewing my policy

I called a ton of places and they won't take me cause I am 1/2 a block from the beach. I found 2 places who quoted me 3,300 and 3,800...Is this normal???

Re: All State isn't renewing my policy

That's the norm for them now. Actually it's hard...a LOT of companies are being very restrictive on who and where they right on LI.
FM Smileyd17, she works for State Farm and has helped a LOT of girls on here with HO insurance.
I'm with Hanover. They too are on a case by case basis and must write the entire acct - auto & umb.

We use liberty mutual, we've had them since march '06 and they just renewed us.

supportacop you also might want to try liberty mutual. we live on the water and they gave us a reasonable rate. we also need flood insurance but that is separate.

I've heard of this from lots of people post-Katrina. Call State Farm - we're only a mile or so from the water but we have a policy through them that isn't that expensive.

I have heard that this has happened to a lot of people. I think that All State is trying to pull itself out of LI...

Re: All State isn't renewing my policy

Yes... they sent us a letter that the policy was now under another insurance taking over.

I have my car insurance under allstate also. I hope they know they are not going to have the cake and eat it too. Unless they are so much cheaper, I will switch the car insurance business to the new home insurance.

I refuse to let them pick and chose what they think is a profitable business for them. I am not going to have several insurance companies if I can help it.

I really want to call State Farm actually and see what they can do for us. I don't even live near the water.

I am sooo mad about this. I just changed car insurance and wanted to get my homeowners with them and they said they are not serving LI and Westchester at this timeChat Icon

I am with Hanover now but I am sure as soon as I drop them for car they will drop me for home.Chat Icon

that's nerve! I hate Allstate. they called me not too long ago to try and "win me back" since I switched to Geico a few yrs ago. I asked the guy who called me "and would you insure my home on LI when I buy one?". he said probably not. So I said "well that is how I feel about switching back to Allstate. have a good day". In all honestly...Allstate is just one of many who are picking and choosing who they'd write on LI.
I've been with Allstate for my auto for 12 years and 4 years for renters. They were excellent in everything they did for me during that time, but I'm moving on once we close on our house.

I have Allstate for renters insurance because they are the absolute cheapest for the coverage I have. I had them for SEVERAL years for car insurance but then Geico came in SO much lower with their rates, it was a no brainer. and Allstate keeps sending me quotes for my car to try and get me back. they're still higher than Geico. why do they even bother?

It just really bothers me that they’re jumping ship on insuring homes on LI. But at least there are plenty of alternatives – probably cheaper ones too.

Re: All State isn't renewing my policy

when i was looking for home owners insurance - only two companies were taking new policies in nassau county long island.... state farm and hanover.... state farm gave me a better rate so we are using them..

if you get your life isnurance or car insurance with them as well - they also give you 10% off each!
