You might. It depends on what town you live in. I would just call the building department in your town and ask.

My hubby(deals with building dept all the time!) said yes you do. Not many people file but you are supposed to!

We are doing this is our bedroom (eventually). We would need a permit, but I am not sure if that is because we are also installing a small deck/patio too.
