How many of you were overweight to start PG and didn't get GD?
I'm hoping for the best. I wanted to lose the weight before getting pregnant, but this baby was such a miracle with my health that I had to embrace being a mommy!!!!

I was about 20 pounds overweight when I got pregnant. I just had my 3 hour and passed. I did cut down on carbs the day before the test. I had a 137 on the one hour so I didnt even want to take the 3 hour. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
I think alot of times its more how your body processes things than it is your weight. I know many thin women who ended up with GD.

My friend who is more overweight than I was when I got pg did not get GD- in fact, she passed the 1 hour with flying colors!

Me- I did very well on the 1 hour test. And I had a great pregnancy (felt good, all the tests came back fine) up until week 33/34, when my BP started to rise (but this also happened to my mom, who was 5'2" and 100 lbs when she got pregnant with me)

While being overweight can increase your chance to get GD, it is not necessarily going to happen.
It depends on medical history, your family history, etc..

I personally don't think weight has anything to do with getting GD. I weighed 116 lbs. before getting pregnant, I eat like a bird, I have no history of diabetes in my family at all and I still ended up having it. I think it depends on your hormones, don't stress yourself, I'm sure you will be fine.

I agree. I am on the thinner side and I got it with my son. I ate normally to although I do have a grandmother who had diabetes. I really didn't fit the risk factors. I know people who ate poorly and overweight who didn't get it. It really depends on how you body decides to react. Just eat relatively normal and healthy and you can hope all will be fine. Don't stress it.

I was overweight and did not have GD...I did gain about 45 pounds though

i was over weight to begin with... plus my dad and grandmother have Diabetes... i thought i was doomed!!! but i passed with flying colors.... and only gained 20lbs so far at week 32...

Its mostly genetic, honestly - there are women I know who are thin and dont gain much weight who still get GD....
