Anyone told....
They were in the "Grey Area" for Fragile X?
Apparently this is the gene that causes different variations of mental retardation and my blood work came back in the "grey area". I just love the way doctors try to explain this one. Saying that nobody in the grey area has had children with issues... then WHY EVEN HAVE A GREY AREA TO MAKE PEOPLE WORRY ABOUT??????
I truly believe that there are too many tests they put us through.
Just curious if anyone else has had this explained to them?

Re: Anyone told....
Trust me, I am not going to worry about this. It just amazed me because based on her explaination I have no idea why they even tell you!
I have actually "not worried" myself into deciding not to take the ultrascreen test because I really think they go crazy with all these tests!

Re: Anyone told....
Sorry I didnt have the Fragile X experience. Just wanted you to know that I agree with you about all the screening tests. The are not definitive about anything. I am 38, 39 when I deliver so I think they make it even worse when they factor in the age. I think instead of letting you have a nice 9 months of pregnancy, they sometimes stress you out! Dont get me wrong, some things are needed, but by having a screening test, then an actual test with clear results can make you crazy!

Re: Anyone told....
I believe that Fragile X is one of those types of disorders where both parents have to be a carrier for it - so maybe that gray area means that one of you may be the carrier for it... Don't quote me on it - I work with developmental disabilities, so have come across info on Fragile X... Honestly, ask your dr. for more info and find out what that means exactly...
I know that I am a bit worried because my statistics for having a child with Downs is high for my age, so I can totally relate to this harrowing process....
