Baldwin?
What are your thoughts/opinions/experiences with Baldwin?
(Practically the whole south shore of Nassau County is uncharted territory for DH and me, so I'm sure I'll have many more similar posts in the next few days!)

Re: Baldwin?
IMO, I would pass. It's been deteriorating for several years now.
Two of my teaching collegaues left jobs in the Baldwin district several years ago and took a significant paycut (about 12-15%) to come teach in my district.
One of them left 8 years ago, gang activity was pretty bad and her principal often asked for her attendance records because they were needed in juvenial court cases. Judges needed to know if the defendant was in her class or not at the time of alleged activity
Bellmore-Merrick can be pricey (excellent SD) but an excellent South Shore community as well as Wantagh (very good district) and Seaford (less so, working w/o a contract since Sept. and higher than normal taxes).

Re: Baldwin?
I live in S. Baldwin, off Atlantic Ave. We like Baldwin Harbor and it is nice but i used to sub in the district and it is very divided. Mostly, Baldwin Harbor kids go to private school.

Re: Baldwin?
if you're planning on raising kids there in the public school system, i would pass. i have family members who live there AND work in the school system. there are beautiful homes there, but there is a lot of trouble with the kids in the high school especially.
i would look at bellmore, wantagh, lynbrook, etc. before baldwin.

Re: Baldwin?
We passed on a gorgeous house that, had it been in another town, we would have bought on the spot.
I just couldn't get past the school district.
We are renting in North Baldwin now and I am living for the day we get out of this town.
