How do I clean...

an area rug that is on top of wood floors? I have a carpet shampooer but I'm afraid that not all of the water will be extracted from the rug and it will damage the floor below.

Does anybody have experience with this or suggestions for me?

Is the rug small enough to move to a better place? Even over other carpeting? Otherwise, you could keep the spraying to a minimum, and just go over the sprayed area very slowly, and several times to get most of the water out before it soaks all the way through.

I am in the same boat. I know Stanley Steamer does it because my SIL had it done to her area rug. When I get in my moods I use the spot cleaner I have (woolite oxycare) and do the whole rug Chat Icon . Their are also some companies that will pick it up clean it and drop it off. I am seriouslly considering though getting a new rug when we move.

You can call a carpet cleaner to come in and do it for you and I believe in certain instances they can take the area rug out for you.

I had someone come in a few months ago for our other carpets and realized after it was too late that I should have had the area rug done. I will def. do it next time.

I had a carpet cleaner come and do it, they removed them, took them with them and delivered them- come this spring I will be doing it again.
