Areas in L.I.
we should be ready to buy something hopefully in about 1 year-18 months. since i'm not from l.i., i don't know the areas. what would be a good area that's near the city. dh commutes to jersey city. i don't want him traveling 2 hours to get to work.

Re: Areas in L.I.
it depends on what you are looking for and your budget, honestly there are lots of nice areas in Nassau which wouldn't make DH's commute to bad.

Re: Areas in L.I.
Western Nassau is your best bet if you want to keep the commute to Jersey city under two hours......

I agree, the more west the better. I commuted to Jersey City from Douglaston (Queens on the Nassau Border) and it was a PITA.

Re: Areas in L.I.
Great Neck is probably the shortest commute to the city. If you get an express train, it's about 20-25 minutes. But Great Neck is expensive. Rockville Centre has a decent commute, too. Actually, you can't go wrong with anything on the Port Washington line.

Re: Areas in L.I.
I grew up in New Hyde Park (literally on the Queens border) and the commute from that area as well as Floral Park / Bellerose is very good - only about 25-30 minutes to Penn Station. NHP and FP are also somewhat "affordable."

Re: Areas in L.I.
Commuting ca be awful, especially during rush hour! I have also heard that Westchester to NJ is not an awful drive-- better than going through the city.
